Let Them Eat Cake...stands

Kathryn, on July 25, 2020 at 8:59 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13
So now that we're doing a mini elopement to get some pretty pictures and include more of our family, I have to plan a mini reception outside of the venue. Our venue was originally going to provide us with the cake stand, so now I'm scrambling to find something in 20ish days. What is everyone doing?!! The most obvious ones are rustic wood logs, which my husband is not a fan of, and the crates as well. I was hoping for something nerdy and on budget because our cake for this event will be his groom's cake, aka a resident evil themed cake. Everything on etsy is cliche and off. What is everyone else using?

Honestly, for my wedding I didn't even have a cake stand. The cake just went on the table, and it looked good.

TJ Maxx now have many different colors marble lazy-sussan that I would love to use, but it was too late. I saw it just a day before my minimony.

We rented a stand from our cake baker for the large wedding cake. Thrifted some glass cake stands for late night donut station. I had to shop around at a couple thrift shops but when I found glass cake stands they were like $3! These will be the size of a small cake you bake at home though, not sure how big your cake will be.

Tableclothsfactory.com sells them inexpensively or you can rent one from your baker

Would you like to own a cake stand? If not, I'd just ask around to see if you can borrow one from someone. If so, how big will the cake (or bottom tier I'd applicable) be? And what's your budget for this?

We rented ours from our bake baker. She had a ton of different styles. Ask your baker if they offer stand rentals!

I got mine from Marshall's. It's nothing special at all but as others in a past post have mentioned it's classic enough to make the cake stand out. What's your definition of nerdy?

Our cake is 9 inches. Honestly our baker is in the middle of nowhere, so I don't really want to deal with rental and return. But I might be able to thrift something or put something together.

I saw one that had infinite loops on it, and i'm tempted to try to recreate the look. I looked and was surprised by how expensive most pre-made ones are. Maybe I'll diy something.

I got a bunch of vintage glass and porcelain cake stands at an antique shop to use for our cake and cupcakes. It was a large place, but I was in awe of how many things they had like this! Maybe if you have an antique store or mall in your area it would be worth checking out. Good luck!

Is your baker not delivering the cake to you? Our rental through the baker included the baker dropping off the cake stand with the cake and picking the stand back up (from the venue, she was part of the inclusive package at the venue) post wedding. Anyways, sounds like it’ll fit on a household cake stand, so I hope you find something you like in stores or online! 🍰😁
