Length of reception

Cuoghi, on December 29, 2017 at 7:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
How long is/was your reception? I currently have mine booked for 5 hours but I feel like with a 1 hour cocktail hour, 4 hours won't be long enough for dinner, toasts, cake, and dancing. Not doing garter or bouquet toss, fairly formal wedding reception. Any thoughts?

We have ours for 5 hours as well Smiley smile 4:30-9:30 but vendors can set up as early as 10 am. I think it should be enough time

I think 5 hours is pretty standard. The last wedding I went to was 5 hours. It seemed like a good amount of time but I would have personally wanted more dancing time. They had also spent like a half an hour doing a group shot that that bar wasn't prepared for so it was a half an hour of listening to Fireball on repeat with a cleared dance floor. So I think as long as you don't do that you'll be fine haha. Ours is going to be 6 hours but only because that's the standard time the venue gives. I wouldn't have paid to extend it. We thought about cutting it down because we worried about people staying involved that long and also to save on paying the DJ for that hour. But we are going with ceremony from 4 to 4:30. Cocktail hour 4:30 to 6:00 and then the reception will end at 10:30.

We have from 530 - 11p. We will probably do a sparkler send off at like 930p/10p. And then we will just see what happens. We have the venue until midnight but 11-12a is clean up.

Ours is going to be ridiculously short lol. My FH doesn’t like to be in the spot light and didn’t even want a reception. 6-630 ceremony 6:30-7:30 cocktail, 7:30-10:30 reception. We also are cutting out a lot though cause again, spotlight. We aren’t doing mother son or dad daughter dances, maybe not even a first dance honestly. No bouquet toss. And only 2 speech’s IF the MOH and Best man want to give one. I don’t think we’ll have a lot of dancing either. About 75 people on the list but only about 20 are dancers. Might meet up with the younger crowder for an after party though

Ours was booked from 6pm to 11pm; guests began leaving around 9:30pm, so we asked for things to shut down at 10pm. I thought I would be bummed it ended an hour early, but I was so exhausted it didn't bother me.

    Ours was really short.
    10-10:30 - preceremony mimosas
    10:40-11 - ceremony
    11-12 - cocktail hour
    12-2 - lunch/first dance/cake cutting
    2 - done

4 hours for all the things. If we could do it again, I may have added 30 min to the end because we didn't get to all of our guests to personally thank them for coming. We had 14 tables and only got to like 8 or 9 of them.

This is the reason I ended up choosing my venue over another. U didn't want to feel rushed. But 5 hours is pretty standard for a reception at most catering halls, country clubs etc. My reception will be from about 5:30 to 1am... I don't expect a lot of my older guest to stay long after dinner and a lil dancing but I'm very happy with my younger crowd of friends being able to party longer

I’m with Nas. Our reception was 5 hours as well including a cocktail hour. Most people started leaving around 10 or so. I was so tired by 11 that I was excited to head to the hotel and collapse in bed.
