Length of Dress

Nikki, on August 21, 2019 at 9:46 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17

Hi guys! So we are going to have our ceremony at the beach, I have my first dress fitting in a couple of weeks and I am unsure on how I should manage the length of the dress, since I will be walking on sand heels are not a good idea, but I am not sure how I should fit the length, do I take shoes to the fitting or do it barefooted? We are eloping so there is no reception afterwards. Thank you!

Are you going to walk barefoot on the beach? Will there be an aisle runner? I can't imagine shoes on the beach. If you decide to wear shoes you need to bring them to the fitting. You could wear sandals or something like vans/keds would be cute that I have seen girls do for regular weddings! You will have to decide before you go as the dress length will be different shoes or no shoes.

I had my dress made to barely brush the floor while barefoot. I will be getting married on the beach as well and will be wearing a version of the sandals pictured below. I wanted my dress to hit the ground but at 6' tall I NEVER get a dress to fit me in length the way it is meant to so it became the #1 must have for my wedding dress. I think wearing sandals or going barefoot for the fitting would be fine if that is how you will be on the big day. Good luck!

Im just not sure what to do because shoes in sand do no go together but my dress does have a long trail, I wasnt sure on how to figure out the length. Its not even a beach dress, I had bought it for the reception we were going to do here but in the end we decided to just cancel everything and elope in Hawaii

Well the train getting sandy is unfortunately inevitable. You could hem your dress to not touch the ground while barefoot if that's the route you are going for without shoes!

Have you checked out those barefoot sandals? They're basically decorations for the top of your feet that go around your ankle and toe. I so wanted those but my podiatrist will hunt me down if I even try it.

I was just looking into those but I do have a 15 min drive from the hotel to the beach so i might just wear flip flops until I get there

I got married on the beach and went barefoot, however my dress was long enough to wear with 3 inch heels for my reception and all of my pictures. I simply held it up in the front and my daughter held it up in the back until I got to the beach and then I just let it hang and I walked very slowly to avoid tripping

I got those in gold for my stepdaughter for my upcoming wedding. She said they are the most comfortable pair of shoes ever!

I got them in white, they feel so good on my feet! I just had foot surgery so it was important to me that I wear something pretty but comfy. I get to wear them on the beach and the dance floor!

We’re getting married on the beach and I chose a tea length wedding dress so it won’t drag in the sand. I plan on going barefoot, but will have something to wear as backup in case the sand is super hot that day. I will get something fun to wear for the reception, just not sure yet.

I also got married on the beach. I wore sandals with an ankle strap (so they didn’t flop around in the sand) and my dress was fitted for that. It was basically the length of me barefoot.

I'm getting married in a park and having a backyard bbq reception. I'll either be in flip flops or barefoot. I brought similar shoes with when I picked out my dress so I had an idea of how much alteration I would need on length. With my flip flops on I won't need any. Barefoot it drags the ground a little bit, but since I'm just turning the dress into a craft project when I'm done, I'm not overly concerned about it getting dirty...

Thank you guys for all your advice! I went ahead and did my alterations barefooted and will be wearing nice flip flops as a backup in case it is hot to walk in the sand
