Legally married in nj but ceremony abroad?

Hi all ! I’m getting married in December in Cancun. I would like to hear anyone else’s experience in doing something similar where you get legally married in the states but have the ceremony abroad. When do you legally get married at the courthouse ? Etc

You would do the paperwork whenever you want. I would probably do the legal part before leaving for Cancun, but it ultimately doesn't matter.

Hi Dennise! I've had a few friends get legally married on a different day than their big wedding celebration - and they've all taken care of the legal part beforehand!!
You'll need to apply for a marriage license in NJ and get legally married in NJ! It can be at a courthouse or wherever you want (as long as you have an officiant!)
That way your ceremony in Cancun will be symbolic and you won't have to deal with any marriage paperwork in Mexico!
