led Balloon Send-off

Balloons in general are awful for the environment. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless there's is some sort of barrier to catch all the balloons and create an LED lighted "sky."

This is so true! I actually don't want to put helium in them at all so they don't end up in a nearby field with livestock. My plan was to just use air and have everyone toss them as we walk by. We are also staying on site for the night, so there will definitely be cleanup. Plus I figured a lot of people will take theirs home.

If you did want them to float, you could attach strings to them like a kite. If you have a lot of people, it might make a really cool photo op to have everyone work together to try and spell out your last name with the balloons. The spelling thing would only work if it was a rather windless night though. Just having air filled balloons that you throw up in the air around the couple would also be super fun (like you suggested).

Another idea to consider is glow sticks or LED candles, guests could hold them up and make a path for you to walk between for your grand exit photo

Or you could do your balloon exit indoors to make sure all the pieces got picked up and disposed of properly

Or take the photo outside but have the balloons stay on strings, no release

I saw a wedding where they tossed blow up balls and it's a bad combo--- drunk people+throwing things=jerks aim for your face

Hopefully your friends and family wouldn't though lol

View Quoted Comment I think it went well. Our wedding was in the summer and so it was not as dark as I pictured it would be by the time of our send off. But our guests enjoyed throwing them as hard as they could at us (with no risk of injury) and they also made pretty good noise makers when we walked out of the venue. Our cleanup was easy since we were walking down a blacktop driveway and the balloons were white. The balloons that didn't pop were picked up for another toss. I will see if u can find a picture and post it.

The send-off starts at 4:30 if you want a visual. I liked that they didn't have helium because I did not want them to float away and land in neighboring livestock fields. If my memory serves correctly we had some left over and parents with kids loved them and took all the leftover balloons home to play with.
