Lazy Photographer

Ok so I feel like I'm paying a lot for a photographer who doesn't seem to keen on doing his job. He doesn't know the area where the venue is and instead of doing his research like photographers I have worked with in the past he is asking me well where do you think the best place for pictures is what equipment he needs to bring so on and so forth... Seriously? I'm paying 1500 for this... if I wanted a non professional to be our photographer I wouldn't be paying so much. We booked a year ago to have plenty of time to pay and he waited until today to contact me when the wedding is next month... I'm wondering if I should request a different photographer or if it might be too late... What do you think I should do?

You could always find a different photographer, however you would lose out on that $1500. Him not knowing the area isn’t a problem but asking what equipment to bring? That’s definitely a problem and he should be well aware of what he needs to photograph a wedding. I hope it all works out for you

Wow yea that’s kind of odd he would ask YOU what equipment to bring 0-0 like I don’t know a single thing about that so I would just be like uh shouldn’t you know?

Would your photographer be willing to visit the venue with you prior to your wedding, so he can see the venue for himself? He should know what equipment to bring, I don't think it's your responsibility to figure that out for him, but maybe he's looking for input from you on what types of pictures you would like from your venue or if you have any specific ideas in mind that he should take note of. Otherwise, maybe send him a link to the venue's website, and he can look at pictures online and hopefully visit the venue himself to get an idea. If he doesn't seem able to do the job without you having to constantly give instruction, then I would try to find a different photographer.

It's through Classic Photographers so they have other photographers so I won't lose the 1500 but I'm just not sure if I should try and work things out with the current photographer of if I should ask for a different one

I would request another one. It sounds pretty unprofessional. The unprofessionalism will not change miraculously on your wedding day either. It will still be the same unprofessional novice. I’d call your place up and request the best one they have.

Have you read or heard any reviews about this particular one? If you have any doubt, maybe see if they can give you a more experienced one if possible?

IF you have the option to request another photographer, I would.
