Lazaro sizing help

Carly, on April 19, 2018 at 1:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Hello brides! I bought my dress and it’s a beautiful Lazaro! In the store I tried a sample size 12 and the consultant recommended I buy a 10 based on my measurements (bust 34”, waist 26”, hips did not matter since it’s a ballgown). However the 12 just seemed so big that I decided to go with an 8 since she clipped about 2” in the back and there’s a lot of intricate embroidery that I’d rather not have altered if possible. The size 8 Lazaro measurements are 34” bust and 25” waist so it may be tight in the waist. In a worst case scenario, is it possible to let out an inch if it really is too small? Anyone with Lazaro specific experience think I’ll be ok? I do plan to lose up to 10lbs. Thanks!

I honestly would’ve gone with the consultant and bought the 10.

Sample dresses are usually stretched out from so many people trying them on.

Sample dresses are usually stretched out a lot. I would take the advice of the professional, it’s a lot easier to take a dress in an inch than to take it out

I would have went with the consultant. It's easier to take it in then let it out. I tried on a size 4 for my dress and it fit, but I ordered a 6 bc I know samples stretch out and most wedding dresses run small. The 6 fits perfectly!

If you can change it to a 10 I’d advise doing it but if not you will probably be fine it’s just a size difference and if you planned to lose weight it’ll work out.
Not only are samples stretched out but Lazaro runs very small. I was a size 10 jean when I bought my Lazaro and I had to order a size 16 dress.
Dont stress too much on it though !
Also which dress ? I lovveee Lazaro.

Definitely change and get the 10! My consultant told me that it's a lot easier to take in a dress than to add fabric

Its Lazaro 3817! I thought for sure I was going to buy a different one that I had been obsessing over, but I tried this one on and fell in love because it was so unique and just felt more like "me."

I would trust the professionals. Like others said, it's way easier to take in a dress than let one out. Can you call back and get the 10? If it's soon enough it shouldn't be in production yet.

Not sure why you thought you knew better than the consultant. It's much harder to let a dress out than take it in, and if they do have to let it out, the intricate embroidery you didn't want touched is going to be affected, as there's no extra to add there.

You should really change your order to the size 10 if it's not too late.

Thanks ladies! I called back today and they are able to change the size since it's only been 2 days. I think the 8 would have been perfect based on what the consultant was telling me (she seemed like she wanted to flat out tell me an 8 would be ok, but couldn't due to liability if the 8 was in fact too small, so based on the size chart she had to tell me a 10). However, I guess I can rest easy now and hope the alterations needed don't impact the design of the embroidery on the chest.

When I bought my dress (a Maggie Sottero) my largest measurement (bust) was for a size 12. So based on the recommendations from the salon, I ordered my dress in a size 12. When I received the dress, every single person asked why I ordered a size 12, when an 8 would have been appropriate based on my actual body.

I knew the size 12 was going to be too big and that I would have to do major alterations to get it to fit right, but to me, it was totally worth the piece of mind knowing that I was altering down, rather than freaking out trying to figure out how to fit into a too-small dress.

Basically what I'm saying is that I was in exactly your position, and the dress ended up being too big (as expected) but having to alter it down was fine and did not impact the overall look of dress at all (mind had fairly elaborate lace/beading, too). If you have a skilled seamstress it will be fine!

That dress is beautiful! But you definitely purchase the size pertaining to your largest measurement. Too tight in the waist is not where you want it to be. Could be very difficult when sitting down and reaching around. Definitely go by the consultant. Wedding dress sizes alter largely from street size and by each designer. If its too big when it comes in you can always have it altered right before the wedding to have it taken in. But making it larger is definitely not easy and depending on the style of dress sometimes impossible
