Layered alterations

I NEED HELP! I love my dress but I can’t envision myself in it once altered. I know it needs to be taken shorter because it’s so long. But I also didn’t think about how a bustle would look on a dress like this. I don’t want to cut it short and lose the layer effect of the dress. Would I leave as is and long all over? Im 5”2 so it’s a lot of excess dress along with a train. I need help! How would I alter? Can it back taken in from the top? Where the lace meets the skirt?
I’m on a stool in the first picture with the pink room, and I’m barefoot in the second, and I have a similar shoe that I’ll be wearing my wedding day in the third picture. So you can kind of see how much excess there is. Please someone suggest something Layered alterations 1

Omgoodness firstly you look gorgeous in your dress and it’s so beautiful. I had a layered dress as well and I just went last week to get my bustle taken care of and this is how they ended up doing it. Layered alterations 4
I can post a picture of what it looks like down and the dress if you need just let me know☺️ Hope this helps!!

Also you have less ruffle then mine you have more layers so they could probably do a 3 point bustle.

I would suggest you go to a wedding dress alteration shop. And you can also contact the store you purchased from

    It's a beautiful dress.

I do think you need to have it hemmed for your height (in shoes) for both safety and comfort reasons. You will constantly be tripping over yourself if your dress is too long, which can result in you ripping your dress or falling and getting hurt.

It should be possible to hem the dress from the bottom, and the seamstress will trim away excess fabric in the front and leave it in the back. This should still result in a very layered look and shouldn't detract from your beautiful train at all. If you want to minimize the amount of fabric that is trimmed, get the tallest shoes you can comfortably walk and dance in and maybe even consider a platform heel or wedge.

I would absolutely consult a seamstress and have them address your concerns directly. They'll be in the best position to explain what options you have and let you know what is possible. Good luck!

That helps a bunch! Or should I say “bustle” 🤣! I’m very visual so I love the way that looks! It eases my mind for sure!

I'm in exactly the same dilemma and just thinking about it now! I'm 5'2" with a layered dress that definitely needs hemming. And the bustle, how on earth are they going to do it? Good luck with yours! 😊

You are a stunning bride! You should definitely consult a seamstress for your dress since they can tell you exactly how to tweak your dress without losing the drama of the gown. I'd ask for recommendations from the place you purchased your dress from, if possible.

My dress has similar layers, we ordered it a custom length to avoid having to hem it (I’m only 5”1’). To Bustle it they said they could fold the train up and attach under one of the layers. Not sure if I’m explaining it well, but hopefully.
