Late sunset/late reception?

Krysta, on October 1, 2019 at 1:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi!

I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out how to create my day-of timeline. We are getting married April 2020 and the sunset is predicted to be at 7:45pm. 7:45! Having a moment with my new husband where we and the photographer have a sunset photoshoot is really important to me. This kinda throws off my whole timeline because I am so nervous about eating before these photos in case I spill (or more likely he will). And I don't want to starve my guests but I want to make sure dancing doesn't start too early. We have the venue until 12pm/1am. I don't necessarily want or need it to go quite that late--I'm great with 11/12ish.

Bleh, I think I'm just in need of some experienced advice! What did your timeline look like? Did you take any photos after dinner? When is the best time to take a breather with your SO without shirking wedding duties?

Can you go outside to take photos during? I've seen couples do that a lot. They'll go off somewhere to take photos during reception

My timeline includes a 15 minute break for us to sneak outside with our photographer for a brief sunset shoot right after the cake cutting (guests will be busy eating cake)

My tentative timeline had us eating and then me and FH sneaking off for ten/fifteen minutes with our photographer at the end of dinner for some sunset photos before coming back for cake. As far as spills you could always do a nice napkin bib if you're super concerned lol

We left our wedding right after we ate (while people were still eating) to go get our sunset pictures. I would not make people wait that late to eat.

My brother-in-law got married August and his wife and him took photos at sunset. They left the reception for about 20 minutes to take the photos. Both were very careful not to get anything on them. My brother-in-law is messy so his aunt bought him a tux bib as a joke and his wife put it on him during dinner.

We also want some sunset photos, but we don't want to eat dinner at 8pm!! So, our ceremony is at 4pm, and cocktail hour and reception right after. So, we'll just sneak away at the right time (around 7:30-7:45pm) and take our sunset photos. No need to interrupt the fun/dancing for this, since it will just be the two of us and our photographer anyway.

We snuck away during the first course to take some sunset photos.

We had our ceremony, took pictures during cocktail hour, were introduced into the reception & did our first dance, then sat down & guests started eating. During that time, the sun was setting so we ran out & took a few pictures. We took a few bites of food but you're on an adrenaline high so neither of us were very hungry anyway and we both had eaten lunch.
