Late night snack numbers?

Melissa, on December 21, 2017 at 1:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hello everyone,

We are thinking about our late night snack for our wedding / budgetting. Where I am, receptions are usually pretty long (ends at 1am). Dinner will be served at 6pm, and we are thinking of doing a late night snack around 930-10pm. I am not sure if the same rules apply here, in that we expect 100% of our guests will still be there AND eat the food? We will either be doing pizza or poutine bar probably. Our friends recently did enough pizza for 75% of their guests, and this worked out for them. What are your thoughts on this?

Definitely budget for 100% of the guests to be there still. I'd go about this the same as I do with RSVP's. Order enough to feed everyone and if there is some left over I'm sure guests will go for seconds.

I know older people tend to leave early and what not but you never want to be in a situation where you don't have enough food, especially if your party could last until 1am.

If anything, your vendors might enjoy the leftovers too!

I'd tend to lean towards budget for them all. I would ask your venue though.

I bet old folks like me will go home early.

We had a lot of guests stay up until the end, and I'm pretty sure most everyone was still around when the late night snack came out. Our venue included it in the total cost pp, though, and served enough for everyone. I will say that we don't know a lot of people who had the late night snack. We can only name three guests who we know for sure had it, because we saw a video my aunt took when my cousin happened to be chowing down, and our photographer git a picture of two guests helping themselves at the late night snack table. Even though it's likely that some guests could still be full at late night snack time, I'd be afraid not to get enough for everyone in the event more people than you think will want it.

Thank you everyone! That is what I initially thought and we budgeted for everyone partaking. I am all about that late night snack and dive in the second it comes out haha.

Can yall tell I am Canadian? Poutine bar is more than double the cost of pizza... but who can REALLY put a price on poutine?

We did specialty pizzas delivered at 10 pm and had enough for about 1 slice per guest (total guest count) and that worked out perfectly! We had a bit left over but it was taken back and eaten at the hotel.

I would absolutely destroy a poutine bar after a night of drinking and dancing. If you can afford it you should definitely do it.

Our venue has us set for 85% of our guests right now for late snacks. I was told that I can adjust this up or down once we have RSVPs and know what our crowd will look like, but that was their suggested starting point.

We had enough late night snacks for 75% of our guests on advice of the venue. They have done hundreds of weddings and informed us that enough for 100% is never needed. Some guests leave early and some guests simply don't want more to eat. Even at 75%, there was a lot left over. We had mini mac and cheese, sliders, and sweet potato fries with garlic aioli. I would ask your venue for advice but IMO you don't need enough for all guests. It can end up being a waste of money and food.

Ohhh man, I always overdo food for gatherings so I'd budget for 100% and probably have a ton of leftovers to enjoy Smiley laugh

I would budget for all, but probably push the time it's served to 10/10:30 since your dinner service starts at 6.
