Late night campsite snacks?

Tara, on August 12, 2020 at 10:46 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm getting married on 8/29/20 in my parents' backyard, which will be followed by a camp out with our friends on my grandfather's farm (next door to my parents' house). We're doing our wedding in shifts, and our friends will be arriving last at around 6pm.

They will be parking at my grandfather's near the campsite, setting up their tents, then walking over to my parents' for the party. We'll be serving dinner (a ton of small plates + appetizers) there, then moving down to the campsite sometime in the evening (maybe around 9ish?).

Obviously people will be drinking, and I'm sure they'll be hungry again before the end of the night. We're having a campfire with s'mores. I'm covered on dessert (in addition to s'mores, we're serving mini cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, and ice pops) but do you have any other ideas about easy-to-serve, late night snacks that I could prep ahead of time? Or even packaged ideas?

There's a fridge in the barn that's close to the campsite, so I can store snacks there. (And will bring everything back to the barn at the end of the night so we don't have any bear visitors Smiley smile I've included a couple bags of chips and granola bars in everyone's welcome bag, but don't feel like it's enough.

One of the things my fiance and I love to make when camping are Hobo Pies. If you have a pie iron for the campfire, get either bread slices or pie dough, and you can fill it with whatever toppings you want! We usually do pizza ones, so we buy pizza sauce, green peppers, pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms, etc. to put in between two slices of bread in the pie iron. Place in the fire for a few minutes, rotate, wait another minute or two, and then it should be done. Everyone can customize their own, and the only prep work is to cut up vegetables ahead of time. You could also make dessert pies with fruit in them, or ham/cheese, or grilled cheese, etc. Basically, pie irons, bread/dough, and a variety of toppings are all you need, and everyone can make what they like. They're easy to make and easy to eat around a campfire.

Mini sandwiches are easy to make in advance & put out for people! Hot dogs would be another easy one for people to DIY and all you'd have to set out is roasting sticks, hot dogs, buns & toppings.
