Hello all! I recently posted about our guest list going down from 230ish to 106ish and now I need a little more advice My fiance thinks that we should invite some more local friends, but for some reason I feel like it comes off as rude...like "hey sorry we didn't invite you before, but now no one...

Hello all! I recently posted about our guest list going down from 230ish to 106ish and now I need a little more advice Smiley smile My fiance thinks that we should invite some more local friends, but for some reason I feel like it comes off as rude...like "hey sorry we didn't invite you before, but now no one can come so you can!" (OBVIOUSLY I wouldn't word it like that haha). I was just wondering if anyone has invited more people later and, if so, how do you word it without it coming off like they're second tier... Honestly, we have HUGE families so a majority of our guest list (and no's) came from them so these are mostly just friends around the area. Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm sorry LauraW, I appreciate your predicament-- what a drag to have booked for so many more than will actually attend! Since you already got your answer, I just wanted to toss in some sympathy.

I have been on the "b" list for a couple weddings and wasn't offended. Do what you feel is right.

Sorry, you are way too close to your wedding date to send out more invites- they will definitely know you B-listed them.

    It is pretty rude.

I was invited late to a wedding, but only because I had just recently become friends with her. So that's probably the only exception.

FH and I were invited to his fraternity brother about 3.5 weeks before the wedding. We couldn't make it because it was the day of our move to a new apartment. We had to decline because of the move but we wouldn't have turned it down otherwise. Were our feelings hurt? Heck no! They decided to invite us after all, it was because they had less guest than they expected or simply because we lived a few hours away I didn't bother to ask.

Simply send them a card and money.

I think its pretty late. But if you really want to go for it just be prepared to come up with in excuse if they ask why they're just now getting an invite ( say it got lost in the mail or you dropped somewhere and just found it) or be honest and hope they understand or be prepared to get some side eyes.

My venue has a minimum of 150 people so I'm paying for it regardless. I have like 5 people on my "maybe" list and I might consider inviting them if I get a lot of no RSVPs back. But I'm prepared to tell them they were additions with no guilt lol

I've also been a late addition. To my cousins wedding! she said she didn't think I'd want to go bc she thought I wouldn't want to leave my 5 month old baby and she didn't want "no crying baby" at her ceremony

Another late addition was to my co workers wedding, she wasn't sure she wanted to invite co workers but she got a lot of no RSVPs she decided to add us in. No hard feelings I understood.

The only way I wouldn't consider this rude (the ONLY way) is if you just recently met someone and became close with them and wanted them to come. That would explain why they didn't receive an invite with the initial invites. Other than that, nope. Don't do it.

Laura, so in addition to not being important enough to invite, the B listed guests should be lied to? Sad.

Brieliz - In that case you have a WW table and we get dressed up and come Smiley tongue

But B listing is bad. I had 2 friends comment that one got their invite 10 days before the other (they were mailed at the same time) People talk, and you are WAY too close to start adding.

Ruuuuuuude. Just invite the amount you have budgeted for. No b-list, no tiered wedding.

If it was more time before your wedding date AND the people had no way of knowing you sent out invites then I'd say you can get away with it but there's less than a month.

No one knows when your invitations went out. You can still invite whomever you want to. Regardless of what the wedding etiquette is: if I'm a B-lister to someone's wedding I wouldn't carry feelings about it. Either I go or I don't. Period! It's your wedding, do as you please.

Eta: Some PPs said to use the extra money to offer a better bar/ food ? I would assume that you would offer the best liquor/ food for your guests to begin with.

Meeka, you think they wouldn't notice that they're getting an invitation two weeks before the wedding?

Well no guest is required to attend a wedding against their will, they can always decline. I'm from the Caribbean and my wedding will be there also, we're more laid back. I can invite someone to my wedding hours before and they will show up lol. I don't see it as being rude but that's just me.

It's a little too close to the wedding to send out these invites, it'll be obvious and may offend some people. While many people think B listing is rude, I think it's ok but only so long as it's not obvious they were B-listed - i.e. you cannot invite 5 friends out of a 6 friend group and invite the last one a month later.

I think it depends on the people you want to invite. Are they close friends they assumed they would've been invited in the first go round? They might be offended and would consider it rude. Are they friends-of-friends that you like and enjoy spending time with, but don't see a lot? They'd probably be excited to be invited at all- late or not! Use your judgement, try and anticipate how people will react and then go from there.

I've actually been invited second hand to a couple weddings and I didn't care. One I went to because I like the girl but understood why I didn't make the cut initially, I'm a former coworker. Another I just couldn't make it, but the girl and I had gotten back in touch after many years.

I don't know, guess I'm just not that sensitive. Life is complicated and plans change, I don't think it's a big deal.
