Last minute cancellations

H, on January 11, 2022 at 2:12 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
I’m getting married Saturday, and have had 10 guests cancel this past week (6 in just the past 2 days). Has anyone else been absolutely shocked by high rates of last minute cancellations? It’s sometimes hard to be fully excited when almost each day I’m being hit with crummy news. Tminus 4 days and hoping I don’t have a ton more cancellations.

Also, before anyone asks, I didn’t have an early RSVP date.

I'm not surprised at all. This had been the trend unfortunately. With covid numbers going up and so many people getting exposed/sick its bound to happen. It sucks to lose that money but I'm not shocked.

That really sucks, but I would try not to take it personally. Covid has really had an effect on social situations. I probably would stay out of crowds right now.

Unfortunately, I think this will be common for weddings over the next few months. People cancelling either because they feel uncomfortable attending given the current COVID numbers, or because they got sick (COVID or not), or because of restrictions implemented, etc. It's disappointing for sure (and especially frustrating to have to pay for those plates), but I'm confident that their reason for cancelling has nothing to do with you. We're still in the middle of this pandemic, and people need to do what they feel is best for their health. It'd also be much more preferable for them to cancel if they're not feeling well, rather than them showing up sick and spreading COVID at your wedding. Take the time to process your emotions about this, and then try to look ahead to this weekend and celebrate with those who will be there. Your wedding will still be beautiful and full of happiness!

I’m getting married on Sunday, and have also had a few cancellations over the last few weeks. It is unfortunate but unavoidable IMO. Let yourself feel the disappointment, then focus on the amazing day you’re going to have with your new spouse!! Congratulations!

Weddings always have guests who cancel. But weddings that take place during a pandemic means increased declines. But the day will still be wonderful!

Yes!! My best friend got COVID 4 days before my wedding and it was rough. After that, any other cancellations didn't matter too much to me. Don't concern yourself too much with last-minute cancels. It's out of your control. All you need is your SO! Smiley smile

We had a month before ppl had canceled on us like 7 ppl 1 of the 7 was my mother but she had some health issues them all of sudden we had ppl cancelling days before the wedding a 1 on the day of. And saying that they had a family gathering all of them had the same stories we laughed and said really at the same time. When we finally saw each other lol lol that did not stop us we still got married and enjoy ourselves with the of our guests. So in clearly understand loss of money wasted
