Last minute cancellations

Brittany, on August 9, 2017 at 10:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

We had an invite list for 110 people. Had the wedding on the opposite side of the country near our families so they could all easily come, and only got 80 rsvps back which was frustrating. Well now we are 5 days out from the big day and we have gotten 7 cancellations in the last 24 hours most saying that they decided 60 miles is too far to drive. What are we supposed to say to these family members? Because what my bride brain wants to say is "Its okay, our final payment has already been made and the extra $1000 you people have made us pay could have been great to spend on our honeymoon or something other than dinner for someone that decided last minute not to show up"

File this away in the category of "things you wish you could say."

It happens. There's nothing to be said about it. Just focus on your wedding.

Oh no! This is my fear. I'm sorry! I would want to say that, too.

Isn't there always something that you wish you could say? (but don't)

Can you ask your vendors if they have an option to change your count? If not, maybe you could get an upgrade for the $1k instead of individual plates? Champagne toast? Additional app? It's last minute, but the worst that could happen is they say no.

Yep it is annoying. Unfortunately all you can do is grit your teeth and say I'm very sorry you won't be able to make it.. we had a few last minute cancellations too, I believe it's quite normal.

Weddings always have last minute cancellations. We had 11 people cancel at the last minute. The money has been spent. Although it's annoying there's nothing you can do so just move on and enjoy your day.

That's what I was thinking mrsski. We already have our bank check and can't change it so I'd rather not waste the money.

Wow! You planned a wedding across the country from where you live so it would be more convenient for your guests, and they think 60 miles is too far to drive. I am livid for you, but you have to just bite your tongue and not tell them how rude they are. Hopefully the people that cancelled will still send a gift, and maybe it will ease the sting of them not being there.

How awful, so OP. I would feel the same way, but wouldn't say anything. MrsSki had great advice though, I hope that is an option!

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do. Sucks the money is already gone, but try not to let it bug you. Your day will be wonderful regardless.
