Lasik?

Soon2BSmith, on August 25, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 9

So, I recently mentioned to my Eye Doctor, that I want to do Lasik. I've been wearing glasses since I was 9. He told me, if that what I want, then I should do it sooner rather than later.

I know Lasik usually cost around $2000 per eye, so around $4000. That's a lot of money. My FH says I should do it, but I feel like it a little selfish of me, considering we have to pay for the wedding day. $4000 could go a long way for things we need. Our wedding isn't until October 2020.

Should I wait til after the wedding or go ahead and do it?

I actually had plans of getting lasik too, but then we got engaged so I decided to put it off for a year or two. I’ve been blind since 6th grade, so since I’ve lived like this for the past 25 years I didn’t see any reason to rush. My fiancé wouldn’t have cared either way, but I’m lazy and didn’t want to have to work a bunch of overtime to pay for both. I didn’t think there was an age limit to having lasik, but I wouldn’t think a couple years would change your eligibility.

I don't think the doctor was concerned by my age, but more so concerned with my vision falling within the treatable range.

My doctor doesn't do laser and did not refer me to any, so he not getting any perks for a referral and thought I should do it soon.

I'm a little concern that I am letting the opportunity pass me by, but I also feel guilty for wanting to spend so much on myself during this planning time.

If FH is on board with it, I'd go ahead and look into lasik soon. I really think you need to invest in yourself Smiley smile

Have you looked into PRK? It's the predecessor of Lasik and has its benefits as well. I believe it is slightly cheaper.

I would do it sooner rather than later. I had it done and you have check ups for one year after and it was honestly the best money that I have ever spent. No more glasses!! They offered a credit card called Care Credit and for one year there were no interest so that helps to pay it off over time so you won’t feel bad about spending money on your eyes and the wedding

I have friends who have done LASIK and PRK, and they all love it. I'd do it myself if my prescription wasn't still changing, so if I were you I'd definitely bite the bullet and go for it. Inertia is real, and it's definitely easy to just keep putting up with things as they are, but think how nice it'd be to wake up and be able to see everything without reaching for glasses!
