Laser Hair Removal?

Kara-almost-Ball, on June 4, 2016 at 6:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Hey ya'll! I've thought about doing laser hair removal treatments before my big day, but I have yet to meet anyone that's done it. Have you tried it? Is it worth it? Thoughts? Concerns? I'm open to any input you might have!!!

If you do it it should be a good distance away from your wedding date. The skin that they treat will become dry and irritated for several days.

ETA: I haven't had this done, my mom has. And her hairs are growing back already one year out after having it done.

Laser hair removal takes a few sessions so if you're doing it just for the wedding day and not too concerned about something permanent I would do a less painful method like waxing or threading. Laser hair removal unfortunately isn't a one session and you're done deal (which would be awesome). I had my whole face threaded and that took maybe 20 minutes and exfoliates it. I plan on doing that again the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding.

I did it on my sideburns. I had thick black long sideburns and it took 6 times for me to see the difference. It's been over 2 years and no hair is growing back so I'm pleased about that. I wouldn't do it close to the wedding though because your skin does get irritated and you might break out or get dry skin.

I have a trans friend that had it done for facial hair. It took her 8 sessions over the course of 6 months. She was in a good amount of pain after each session & it took a good 4-5 days to heal.

I had laser hair removal done about 4 years ago. I love it!!! I had my legs, feet, toes, armpits and upper lip done. It hurts when you're getting it done (feels like someone is flicking you repeatedly with a rubberband) and then the areas itched for a few days. After that it was good. They couldn't do the tattoo on my leg cause the laser can't get through the ink so I have to run the razor across it once a week. I'm glad I did it though

I am currently going through laser hair removal treatments. They are done every 6 weeks (depending on which area you are looking for) I don't think it's as painful as waxing the first time. You ice the treatment area for good 20 minutes, take some advil for swelling, and then I use cortizone cream for the itching and redness to subside. I've only had 3 treatments and can tell a huge difference.

@OP what's your skin tone and hair color? Laser works best on lighter fair skin with dark hair. I had my underarms done a few years ago but since I'm brown I didn't get great results after 8 treatments. My hair is thinner and grows slower. I found it more annoying than painful, like someone flicking you with a rubber band. Also, once you start sessions, you can't wax since laser needs roots to be effective.

There are two lasers. One for light skin and one for dark skin. My FH is of Indian descent and he has brown skin with black hair. They said he's perfect for the treatment. We've had one session so far and he can tell a difference already. I'm a redhead- very fair skin with blondish/red hair. They weren't positive if it would work on me because the laser doesn't pick up on blonde hair. Only my darker red hairs will be seen by the laser.

So definitely have a consultation and see if you have the right color hair/skin type for laser hair removal.

I did it over ten years ago and I loved it (underarms, lower legs, and "muzzle"). It's time to go back, but it was a good seven years before I saw growth. I still don't shave but epilate. Also I'm Asian with darker hair and lighter/medium skin.

It all depends on where you want the hair removed from, the type of hair and your skin tone. My skin was fine after treatments, a bit red but just immediately after. Dark, thick hair on lighter skin is easier to remove. Think bikini line and underarms. It's also not permanent. You will have to go back for some maintenance. The only permanent way to remove hair that I know of is electrolysis. I would recommend it but you would want to start about 6 months plus before the wedding for max results.

My understanding is 1/3 of follicles die per treatment, so you usually have to do an area three times, and you have to wait for the hair to grow in between.
