Laser Hair Removal...Not for the easily offended

Erika, on March 23, 2017 at 2:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

Anyone have it done down south? I cannot keep doing a Brazilian every month...too tedious and expensive.

Is it worth it?

Seriously debated it for quite some time and did my bikini line. I got scared that the 70s style would come back/my preferences would change and chickened out of the whole thing.

For me, the laser was super expensive. I needed to go back multiple times. Also, it hurt WAY more than waxing. However, I've gotten so used to the waxing pain I barely feel it anymore.

Didn't even know this was an option! Interested in what others have to say!

Why would asking about hair removal options offend anyone?

@EM some people would get offended that we are talking about vaginas on the thread....

@Erika for me yes. It was a different type of pain that I was not used to in that area of my body... haha. I have been waxing for years and honestly don't feel any pain waxing anymore. So the difference was quite noticeable.

If you have been consistently waxing for some time, the pain should decrease over time with a good waxer. If it still hurts just as bad as the beginning/isn't going away, you might be waiting "too long" before waxes. I put "too long" in quotes because, as you mentioned, it is expensive and time consuming so not everyone goes as often as necessary to keep the pain to a minimum.

I've done Brazilian laser hair removal! It's awesome!! I have blonde hair, so really only the darker hairs were completely removed... and it took about 10 sessions. And it hurts like a raging BITCH. I didn't use the numbing cream after the first time because you have to sit there wrapped in plastic wrap for an hour, and it's about 100000X worse than a tattoo, but over in 5 minutes. If you have a low pain tolerance I would recommend sitting through the hour in order to get the numbing cream. I still have to shave about once a week to remove the blondies that weren't affected by the laser.

ETA: I cannot emphasize enough that it is super painful. It felt like my vagina was being stabbed with hot needles. @Lindzer - it's really painful next to the labia and close to the clitoris (as one would expect). An inch to the side is nothing compared to right next to those locations. Each laser has different settings also so that might change the overall experience.

Did my bikini line "plus". It was painful but not unbearable. (A Brazilian might be a different story!) Lasted great for about 18 months after 6 sessions. I'm pale with dark hair which is supposedly ideal for the laser, so your results may very, but I highly recommend.

I've done both laser and waxing on my bikini line, but didn't keep it up because I don't have the money (I had a gift card for laser and I used to get 50% services at the salon & spa at which I used to work). The laser is pretty hot and it feels like a rubber band snapping or tiny needle. The wax was basically what you would expect. I preferred waxing because it's cheaper and less painful. Now I just shave or use nair.

Laser hurts but worth it. I'm German and have stubborn hair so I have to have a double pass at my appointments.

I wax for a living, and many of my clients have gotten laser and still see me regularly. Laser is ideal for dark hair and pale skin. Even then, it should not be seen as "removal" as much as "reduction".

Electrolysis is the best option with the best results, but it is far more costly and time consuming than laser.

It actually isn't that bad. Sorry for TMI but I have gotten it done several times down south and now I don't need to go. Still grows here and there but it is much finer and when I do need to wax (in the summer) it doesn't hurt at all. If you do go you can't be in the sun 6 weeks prior or 6 weeks post treatment because it can cause discoloration.

@Jassel, well thanks for that info because I would def wait until like October then. I would rather deal with the Brazilians until then and still be able to go to the beach/be out in the sun during the summer time

I'm just planning to have a Nair party & call it a day. I've done laser treatment on my chin and it was successful after like 6 rounds of it. A year later and for the most part the hair has not returned, but there are a few stubborn ones coming back. I'll probably go back for another round a month before our wedding.

I just started getting my bikini line waxed. I've been using EWC. So far I'm super happy, and they have great package deals. It's $27 every 4-5 weeks. ETA I looked into laser and it was waaay too expensive.

@Erika my pleasure. Yes definitely wait until the colder months to go.

Also avoid tanning lotions/sprays for at least 4 weeks prior and 2 weeks post treatment. Make sure to ask if any medications that you are on even BC if you are taking them wont affect it. They should go over a medical screening with you prior. Also make sure to avoid waxing, plucking, threading and bleaching the area for at least 4-6 weeks prior to your treatment. If you make an appointment they should go over all this in more detail with you.

    Good luck!!
