Large initial letters

klimberkat, on March 9, 2016 at 9:51 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

The back wall of our venue (a camp dining hall) has these sinks that FH hates so I'm having a wall of white drape put up. Since that wall also has the doors to the kitchen, we're putting another piece of drape a few feet out to cover the gap so guests can't see into the kitchen. This will create a focus so we plan to set up a table in front of the center drape that will display the cake and coffee station. I'd like to hang large initials from the drape to add focal interest since the cake is only 3 tiers.

When I did event design ft, we used to make things out of foam cor and glitter, so that's sort of what I'm envisioning. The thing is, I want them 3' tall, and I don't know where I can get a piece of cardboard or foam cor that large. I can always ask my old boss to make it for me (they're doing the drape) but I wanted to save some $$$. Has anyone made or purchased letters that large?

Here's an example of an initial we made at my old job...this was a Bat Mitzvah hence the single letter. Also, I think it's like 5' but you get the idea. Letter hung on drape.

Isn't foam core usually about 3' tall? If not an office supply store, maybe a craft store.

Michaels has large pieces of foam board in the kids section for school projects. I believe the biggest size was 3 or 4 foot long and maybe 2 or 3 feet wide. They also have a new section called "Alphabet Soup" in store. When I was there last, they did have some larger letters Smiley smile

Ahhh, Lowe's! Thanks Mariaa! We always ordered 4'x8' pieces from a wholesaler so that's what I was thinking I'd cut it out of. I didn't think the craft stores went that big, but 3' would work too, so I'll check it out. Thanks y'all!
