Large group photo?

When would be a good time to take a large photo with all your guests? How did you do it? Drone?

I like the ones taken by drone, and depending on your venue and number of guests that can be the only way to get everyone in the shot. We’re looking at a very small ceremony, under 30 guests, so I like the idea of a drone just to capture the scenery and space From a different perspective.

I’m thinking the best time would be right after the ceremony because people will leave the reception at different times, so waiting until your grand exit you might not get everyone. For me it would also be an issue of lighting, if you’re having a later ceremony you’ll need to get pictures before it’s too dark to see people’s faces.

We took ours at the end of cocktail hour. Once we we're done taking pictures with my MOH and my husband's BM and arrived back to the venue, our coordinator went inside and gathered everyone to come out on the stairs. Our photographer took the photo. Unfortunately it was quite dark by that time, but she did the best she could and it's still a fun shot of everyone!

    Hey!!

Have you already booked your photographer? Do they list Drone imagery as a service available?

Depending on your venue, it may be possible to get a shot of your guests from a well placed upstairs window. By discussion this with your photographer you may be surprised with the innovative ways that a group shot can be done!

If you have not booked your photographer yet, you could specifically look for someone who has access to a drone for this photograph. Just keep in mind that this may cost extra, on top of their regular fee.

At the end of daughter and SIL's wedding, as they walked back up the aisle, the minister asked all the guests to stand and turn around so the photographer could get a group shot. (The photographer was at the top of a couple of steps at the back of the ceremony site, so he had a great perspective for the photos.) He got a couple of GREAT shots that are all awesome. (Daughter & SIL had one printed on a large canvas and have it hanging in their home -- and it's adorable!) We've been guests at weddings where they asked all the guests to gather for a picture on the dance floor, but they didn't turn out very well.
