Large Church (500-800 people and 3 row pews) with 150-200 invites

ashley, on September 27, 2012 at 3:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

My old church has a large chapel that seats a LOT of people. I want to have a wedding in a church and THIS church is nice because I went there for years (also it's in my budget range.)

Would this be a horrible idea?

How would we seat the guests?

If we get the ushers to seat them on both the left and right pews, they will look too far away from each other and if we seat them on the left and middle or middle and right, it would look disoriented.

AHH! Stressing out already and my wedding isn't until August 2013.

I think it you use the right and the middle or the left and the middle and you guys stand in between it should be ok and would look like a normal 2 sided church would. Just pretend like the un chosen side does not exist. 200 people should be able to sit in 2 sections

is your wedding aug or may because your avatar says may but you said aug??

How about your friends on the far left. His friends on the far right. Your families seated together with your family on the left and his family on the right

I think it depends on how/where you want to process in and out. It's great to seat people in all 3 sections, but then if you process down the right side aisle, the people in the far left section might not be able to see you.

Do you have a picture of the inside of the church? Maybe a stock photo from their website?

As far as the "emptiness" factor goes, we got married in a huge historic church that seats up to 1300 people, and we had 135 guests, and it was fine. The florist draped the aisle with ribbons which kind of filled up the space and people naturally sat towards the front and center.

We had these goofy angled pews on the left side facing the pulpit. They were built so people sitting there could be looking straight at the preacher instead of facing the wall in front ahead of them but they looked kind of weird. We used them for family. No biggie.

If the church is sentimentally important to you, go for it, there's a way to make it work.

Haha, thanks for pointing the wedding date info out. I didn't notice it. I'm going to try and get a picture of the entire sanctuary for y'all to see.

I went to a wedding like this- it was a huge church and there were maybe 80 guests. Basically they suggested everyone mingle, dont split them up so it is uneven in any way, and have them sit in the first group of rows. I assume you will be centered in front of the middle row? That should be fine. But as Kris said, it depends also on how you plan on coming into the church.
