Large Batches of Mixed Drinks - Recipes?

KTizzle, on March 30, 2015 at 1:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm having a casual reception a month after my private ceremony. To paint a picture: it's at a large pavilion with metal picnic tables, and our caterer is serving fried chicken, pulled pork, corn on the cob, etc. We're estimating 150 will attend.

We're not allowed to serve anything in a glass container, so that eliminates bottled beer or liquor. We will have cans of beer, and I'm making a huge batch of sangria. I'd like to make one other mixed drink in a very large batch. Something that most people would probably like. Guest list is mostly 30-45 year olds, a hefty chunk 20-somethings, and a couple handfuls above 50. I've found a lot of recipes by just googling stuff and by liking the Tipsy Bartender page on Facebook. I'm just curious to see if anyone has any good go-to recipes for mixed drinks that you can make in a huge batch. (I'm allowed to bring glass bottles to make the drink, just not to serve it in).

Or do you think beer and sangria are enough boozy options?

I should add: we will have plenty of soda, water, and iced tea for non-alcoholic options.

You can large batch almost any cocktail. Some will stay better than others. I wouldn't large batch anything with soda as a prime ingredient, as it'll lose carbonation.

If you're feeling frisky, you can large batch a cocktail a month or two before and then barrell age it.

Seriously though, you can do anything. Just please don't use Curacao.

    I just re-read your post.

In your case, my god, just do a hard sweet tea! Easy, three ingredients, will last forever, crowd pleaser, goes with your theme....

If you want to go fancy, I'd do a Moscow Mule or a Mint Julep.

What kind of liquor do you like? One of my fave go-to drinks is mandarin vodka, Midori, sweet & sour, and pineapple juice. It's super fruity and great in the summertime. Another is Captain Morgan, Malibu, banana schnapps, and pineapple juice.

Hard sweet tea would be a nice pairing with BBQ. It's also not fruity, covering a flavor that the beer and sangria don't hit. It would also be easy to make in bulk areas of time!

Thanks all! I can't believe I didn't think of hard sweet tea. That is definitely what I'm going with. I know I'll be hitting the sangria all night, but I wanna make sure I provide enough options for everyone. Hard sweet tea it is!

If you have hard sweet tea, you can do a large batch of John Daly pretty easily.
