Ladies! Im having a difficult time finding a dress!

Heather, on October 17, 2019 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17
Where to even begin. I was a college athlete and after college I had surgery after surgery and I've gained substantial amount of weight. So not only am I learning to love a new body and working to be healthy. I'm also planning a wedding. I live in Kansas and they're not a whole lot of bridal stores. I'm having a hard time finding a dress that feels right. And I know that there are people out there like lizzo who could pull off any wedding dress she put on but sadly I don't feel like that. I'm having a hard time even finding dresses to try on a lot of the stores don't carry more modest bigger size dresses. I guess I'm asking for some advice and maybe some support. the last time I went right on dresses I left David's Bridal crying because she only could pull three dresses.

I'm a big girl. I wear a size 18 and I found beautiful dresses on Azazie. For $15 they will ship the dress to your house for you to try on. They also do custom sizing. Take your measurements and follow the size chart. Hope this helps Smiley heart

I second Azazie! I'm not really plus sized, but I'm not skinny either. But the FREE custom sizing with Azazie is amazing in my opinion. They have a lot of beautiful and affordable wedding dresses (not thousands of dollars), and I love that you can try them on at home. Either way, you'll still look absolutely beautiful in whatever dress you choose and your FH will think so too Smiley heart

Hey girl! I'm a size 14/16 and went to a bridal boutique that had tons of plus size dresses for me to try on. Maybe you can search for shops that carry plus? My dress is Willowby Watters, and Watters also sells plus size dresses. You'll find the one! Smiley heart

This is an experience no bride should have! Wedding dress shopping should be fun and enjoyable. I'm so sorry to hear you're having a hard time with it, that's very discouraging. If traveling is an option for you and you can find a salon not too far away, I'd recommend trying to go there. otherwise, look online!! Look on this website and other similar ones to find women with comparable bodies to see what they wore. Obviously every person is different and it's all about what you're comfortable in and what makes you feel your best. Your FH will think you look beautiful no matter what you wear, I'm sure of that. But you need to find something you feel good in!! Maybe try looking on Amazon? You may be able to find some things you can order to try on then send back (free returns for Prime members). That might help you get an idea of what style you like on yourself. Reach out to a stylist in an online forum to find someone with experience who can help you choose. Sometimes other people might be able to tell what would suit your body better than you can tell yourself.

I second PPs comments about checking out Azazie. As a plus sized bride myself, I made sure to specifically search for shops that carry curvy samples and refused to visit a salon where I wouldn't be able to try on dresses. Even if you don't consider yourself plus size, I would search for plus size bridal salons in your area, they typically start out at a bridal size 14.

Oh girl I feel ya. I went to Davids Bridal first and was not excited about the prospect of more dresses after I left there. I went to a plus size Boutique (Brides By Young) and they only carried plus size! It was so nice and I was able to find the one! Total 180 from DB

I would look at Azazie, they have a lot of sizes & you can order at home try ons for $15 a piece. Have you thought about taking a day trip or weekend trip to a bigger city, with more options?

I was SO afraid to dress shop because of my size (pant size 18). I went to DB and had an okay experience, then I bought a Maggie Sottero gown on Still White that was a size 20. It is beautiful, and fit perfect (only needed hemmed). I still felt like it wasn't MY dress, but told myself it was beautiful, and I REALLY did not want to go through shopping and squeezing into too small dresses again. There is an off the rack shop here that carries 00-32 that the owner (a plus size woman) opened because she had a miserable dress search. They usually are too expensive for me, but they had a huge sale last month and I fell in love with a Bonny Bridal gown. I am so glad I got back out there. Dress shopping is daunting no matter the size, but you will make a beautiful bride, no matter what the number on the tag is!

I plan to check out both Azazie and Anomalie. I haven't explored Azazie before. I'm honestly just hearing about it on this thread, but I have explored Anomalie. They custom make your dress based on features you like/want. Seems like an awesome idea!

Hey girl! I am going wedding dress shopping this weekend & I am also a curvy girl. I haven’t really thought much about what I think will look good but I do know what clothes cater to my body. I think you need to just feel comfortable in your own skin. My thought for myself is to go to some stores & see what dresses fit my body type. Then maybe if I have no luck, looking online. There are a lot of plus size options online for dresses. Also don’t go to the store having expectations of finding some wonderful “the one” dress. Just go with the intention to try on dresses and see what you like. Don’t put so much pressure on it!
