Lace Removal possible?

Katiuscia, on August 18, 2020 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I have had a dress custom made, on my second fitting it was just the crepe fabric without lining. On my first fitting it was just the lining. Anyhow on my second fitting, I asked for just a couple of tweaks, tighter areas where I didn't feel the fabric was laying on me well etc. But I took a photo of it pinned to how I want it. Anyhow it looked gorgeous and I was so excited. However I've had my last fitting before it's complete and its not not fitting well at all. And the lace has now been added which I feel makes it look bulkier on me and preferred it before hand.

Im wondering if anyone knows if lace can be removed from a crepe dress to leave it plain without there being marks? 😢 And I'm hoping the shape can be fixed a little too.
I would be going somewhere else for this because unfortunatley I am not comfortable brining anything up with the people I am having my dress made with as they just say it's not possible etc and no changes are possible now. When I mentioned about the diff under my arms and neck line to the other pic they said it was just the angle of image but I know it wasn't just that because I noticed it in the mirror immediatley.
I also have quite a low back but I feel this makes the straps too loose. Is there anything I can do about that?
Pic attached of before plain when I loved it and of today (you will see diff shape under armpit and its been pulled up and now laying funny on me) I'm also having a removable overskirt. P. S. Excuse the thumbs up 😂😂 I was messing about with my BM. Lace Removal possible? 1

The left is trying it on today? I don’t see much of a difference with the neckline. Anymore photos? Sorry if I got it wrong.

I’m confused too, is the pic on the left how it is now? If so I think it looks far better and gives a better shape! Please don’t change it back!!

I'm assuming the picture you're speaking of is the one on the right? It looks like she set your waist line to high. Can the seamstress bring it down. Actually the one on the right is much much higher than the one on the left. The crepe is beautiful and I would leave it, if they can drop the waist line.

I don't like the fit of the one on the left and I love the one on the right. I don't think I like the lace and I'm not sure if it's removable as I felt so amazing just as it was the last time. Xx

I do have more however they are diff angles. One on the left was yesterday but I felt amazing just the way it was on the right. You know part of me doesn't care what it looks like I just want to feel good and I felt rubbish the last time. It's just not the fit I like. And I loved the fit the last time xxx Lace Removal possible? 2

Ok I get it now. What if you try it with a very thin embellished belt? I think that could bring it in at the waist and you might feel less boxy? I can’t tell anything with the neckline or arms seem different. But I know what you mean about wanting to feel good.

The one on the right is beautiful and super flattering on you. It accentuates your body shape.

I think it would be difficult (although not necessarily impossible) to remove the lace without leaving noticeable marks. Are you sure they didn't change anything other than adding the lace and making the pinned adjustments? It actually looks slightly looser in the lacy one, which I think is part of why it felt bulkier and you were uncomfortable, but that can't entirely be explained by the lace.

I totally agree. I really don't know, they said they didn't but this particular appointment was with the lovely lady that makes the dresses but unfortunatley she speaks very little English.

On the part under my armpit originally my bra was poking out so I think she has raised it.
Tbh the entire thing has been a huge lack of communication. At this appointment I was meant to try the dress on and place the lace where I wanted it but when I got there the lace was already pinned to the dress and it was too difficult trying to explain to someone that didn't speak much English and I'm at the point where I feel so uncomfortable saying anything, any questions I ask I am made to feel like a hassle but I have had to ask questions because of the lack of communication.
Even just for taking the dress up. I said I might change shoes and I'm a UK 2 and none fit me, so the ones I had were maybe a little high, and she said I wouldnt be able to get the dress taken up once it's done even if I paid for it. It's not possible she said.
I really don't want anyone to think it's a bad place to get a dress made but I think the whole process just lacked communication hugely and I think because I hadn't tried on anything that fit me before It was really hard to know what kind of shape I wanted the skirt to be ect and the neckline in general.
I also thought the straps would be tighter which isn't possible with such an open back but I have swimming costumes like that so I didn't realise the diff in strap material would make it looser. I actually thought the straps were going to be crepe with diamontes so possibly stick to me more.
Sorry for the novel. It's nice to speak to someone that sees the diff too. I've to go in on sat. It will be fully made then and i need to pay for it then but she said she wouldn't make any changes to it from that day after I said I wasn't happy with it so it will just be as it is here. I have no idea how to act but want to avoid the conflict. Xx

Could she help add back the lace overskirt? I think that helped a lot with balancing the shape. It sounds like it might be a lot with the appliques, but with the sheet fabric it might be ok and it could add enough shape to rebalance things.

Yes, thats being made seperatly so I will have the overskirt too.

She declared "no changes" and was rather rude so I'm having to pick the dress up as is and pay the final balance.
Hopefully someone will be able to fix it. If not I'm just glad to get away from there and that that part is over. They made me feel like such a hassle. Xx

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I tried to pick someone that I wouldn’t have trouble communicating with before going in. Someone that could give me good feedback, strategize and share their ideas of what was possible. A phone conversation is usually pretty revealing if they understand what you’re looking for. I hope it works out for you! The one you have now isn’t bad at all. I think there is some potential to save it and make you love it again.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was super tired when I saw it and wanted to make sure that whatever I said actually made sense.

It's a little hard to tell because your arms are blocking your shoulders in the one without the lace, but my guess is that she kind of shifted the whole thing up if that makes sense? Doing that would cover your bra but it would throw off the fit everywhere else and make the straps looser. If the dress still fit the way it does in the other picture, would you be happy with the location of the lace? If so, I think you'd be able to take it somewhere else and have it altered to fit you fairly easily. Also the very bottom of the dress is pretty much plain so I'm sure having it hemmed wouldn't be a problem if you end up wearing slightly lower shoes.

The straps will never be as tight as they are on a swimsuit because those ones are elastic and attached to fabric that is wrapped around you in a way that means it can't slide up or down, but on a fitted dress, your straps should still feel secure. That's true regardless of what the straps are made of, but if you would prefer to have them replaced with more decorative/stickier straps it would be a very easy change for someone to make.

I had a less than ideal alterations situation with my dress that was caused partially by COVID, but was made worse because I didn't feel comfortable saying anything at what ended up being my final fitting, so I know how uncomfortable this can be. The alterations were the only part (other than COVID) of my wedding planning process that I would go back and change if I could. I ended up being able to fix the fit issues with my dress with my mom and her friend the week before my wedding, and I'm happy with the way it looked and felt, but if I had been able to take it to someone else I definitely would have.

I hope things go well and your dress looks the way you want it to tomorrow, but if you're not happy with it, it will definitely be worth it to find someone who can make it look and feel the way you want it to.

Just a little update for you all.

I picked up the dress today. I'm not sure how it's been fixed but it's much better and feels perfcet. Just how I wanted it I feel some lace has been removed as well so that it's not too busy and I love the overskirt. Here are the pictures. Hope you all like it.
