Lace Garters question

Macksgirl, on June 24, 2014 at 11:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Any one have any experience with them?

I am wanting to order one off etsy but was turned off by one shop noting "use double sided sticky tape to ensure your garter stays in place!"

Do the lace garters stay on? Do they slide off easily. I know you order them to your exact thigh size, but I want it to stay up and be tight like the stretchy garters.

I love the lace ones, they are so pretty- but I want them to stay snug on my thigh all night without using sticky tape!

You could buy button hole lace designed for threading with 7mm ribbon. Then tie the loose ends if the ribbon in a bow as tight as you need.

I have seen some on etsy that are made with stretch lace.

I bought a stretch lace one and I do think it would need double sided tape or something to hold it on. I wasn't planning on wearing mine other than for the dumb garter toss.

I bought a strech lace garter off Etsy and it fell off after my husband and I walked down the asile. It fit fine, but I guess not snug enough. I would recommend using double sided tape.

I bought one off etsy and it is very pretty. I think mine will stay on. However, I think i ordered mine too small because the lace rolls up. It doesn't lay flat. The lace is very delicate. I wish I would have ordered a bigger size, but apparently I measured my leg wrong.

Oh, by the way, it's pretty comfortable though and not itchy. Mine looks just like Mrs W's except with a red flower and no gems.

So glad I read this-- I'm going to use double sided tape just as a precaution. I don't know how I'd cover it up if my garter fell off during the ceremony!

I got one off etsy recently and accidentally ordered the wrong size. It was too big but the seller was awesome and I sent it back and she made me a new one, no charge. It's in the mail already. Her garters have a rubberized backing where the details are so that they don't slip off. I know once I have the right size it will be fine, the rubber backing seemed super sturdy. I just needed it a little tighter. Below is a pic of my set.

Mine stretch and fit really nicely. I don't think they will fall but maybe I should wear around the house to make sure.

Mine was too heavy. I wrapped the big one around my bouquet. I tried to wear the smaller one, but it had fallen to my ankle by the end of the ceremony and I took it off. But then, I think I ordered the wrong size.

There is a big difference between a stiff lace and a lace made with elastic! Go with one made from elastic- the same as lots of lace panties are made with now a days. It will sit in place better and be more comfortable! You can always tighten a garter that is too big- even if your sewing skills are atrocious!

I make lace garters- have made them for all my married friends, and made my own. The trick is definitely double sided tape for lighter ones, and for the heavier ones (ones who TONS of embellishments like ones above)- sellers should use some rubberized backing to help the embellishment stay in place on your leg.

Unless you make yourself the garter, or physically measure the leg yourself, I think it is hard to make it the exact right size, to be honest. Too small and the lace curls, too big and the damn thing falls off. Tricky tricky little things. But damn they are cute!!

ETA: by "double sided tape" i mean that fashion tape- you know, the stuff made to "hold yo-self in" Smiley winking It truly does work wonders! Unfortunately, as cute as these things are, the material is just not made to stay put on silky smooth legs. I am sure they would stay put on FH's hairy, legs, though... Smiley winking

    Sure thing! SimplyWeddings: https://www.etsy.com/people/SimplyWeddings

I first saw the set I got on pinterest and it wasn't on her shop page. I sent her a message and she reopened it so I could get it. So she does have more options that aren't listed!

I ordered some off Etsy that I loved.. I gave the seller my thigh measurements and they definitely fit but kept falling off every few steps I walked. I think some double sized tape would have worked perfectly but didn't think of that before my wedding day. I had to leave them off until right before the garter toss.
