Lace dress...the good, the bad and the difficult alterations

Danielle, on January 20, 2020 at 5:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I really want a long sleeved lace gown but I’ve heard so many negatives reviews on the delicateness of the fabric that it’s makes it impossible for alterations. Is this true? Should I avoid ordering a lace gown? My wedding is 10/23/2020 is time is not on my side😩

Lace is more time consuming and therefore expensive, but it’s by no means impossible for an experienced seamstress.

I went with lace because I figured it would be more forgiving of imperfections (or klutzy me spilling drinks on myself).

Good luck with sleeves. Every sales person basically told me women don’t want sleeves. I have to get mine added. (I find out alteration costs on the 8th)

I had a lace bodysuit with long lace sleeves. I was so scared I’d rip the fabric. No problems with alterations. She took in the sleeves twice (I lost more weight due to stress my last week).

I don’t think lace was more expensive for alterations (it’s all expensive!).

I had an all lace dress and loved my dress. Yes alterations were more expensive because the seamstress had to remove the lace on the bottom of the dress, hem it, and re-attach the lace to make sure I didn't loose the pattern on the bottom. I also had my dress snag on little leaves and twigs when we were outside taking pictures. It wasn't a huge deal and no one noticed it. The biggest problem was when someone stepped on the edge of my dress and I heard the rip sound. I believe lace is easier to rip, but I never found where the rip was. I think you should go for the dress you love. It will be worth it!
