Labels or handwritten addresses???

FutureMrsWhite, on November 13, 2017 at 4:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 37

We're exactly 5 months away from our big day, and our STD's just arrived today. We opted for postcards through Vistaprint instead of traditional cards, as postcards were less than half of the cost of traditional cards. I really want to print the addresses right on the postcard, but I've gotten frustrated trying to figure it out or finding a template. So, now we're leaning towards printing the addresses on labels and sticking them on the postcard. Is this acceptable? Or should it be more personalized by handwriting each one?

I did labels for return addresses and RSVP's- I hand wrote all the address on the envelopes though. But I only had like 17.

I did clear labels for the STDs and the invites. I had a pretty casual look for my invites so it was fine.

I wanted the personalized touch so I did hand write everything from STDs to invitations [I did have preprinted addresses on the RSVP envelopes.

Kind of piggybacking on this question... when people say they did handwritten do you mean just your normal handwriting or calligraphy? If normal, did you print or write in cursive?

I've been wondering the same thing!

@Spagetti I hand wrote addresses and used calligraphy on the interior envelopes on my invitations [couldn't pass up the great silver ink]. I used my normal handwriting not cursive, but I have nice handwriting that leans to more script like [I get brought everything at my work to hand write].

I had to use labels because of the envelopes used (cobalt blue). We checked with our local post office and they said silver or white sharpie on the envelopes would be rejected as they couldn't be read by the scanner. So to ensure they were sent we just used white labels.

Return envelopes were silver, but the pattern made us feel they'd be rejected if we didn't use labels. We used white labels for those also.

Thank you note envelopes were all handwritten white envelopes.

@spaghetti Great Question! I'm curious to hear the answers. I love the look of calligraphy, which is why I wanted it printed on the postcard. Print lettering seems so boring. If it looks like the majority thinks that the labels are acceptable, I'll go with that for our STDs and figure out the invitations afterwards.

@OP The nearest calligraphy artist near me would cost a fortune and I can't do it myself. My wedding is very formal though so I guess I'll have to find a place that prints it. I was hoping labels were ok for the Save the Dates, too. I have some time to decide I guess..

Team address labels. Handwrite em if that's a hobby but don't feel obligated.

I'm going to practice some basic calligraphy and hand write. I find it much more formal than labels. BUTTTT you can get really pretty ones made if you have the $$

I'm handwriting. I've been practicing brush lettering and am trying to save as much money as possible. Since handwriting is basically free (besides my sanity) I'm going that route. But I don't have to send mine for a few months yet so there's that..

My advice would be to do what's easiest and cheapest for you. Personally I don't remember any STD or invite address I've ever received. There are so many details involved in wedding planning, and I think this is one that none of your guests really care about.

I tried to do clear labels, but it didn't work out for various reasons and I just hand wrote them. The WW community was good at helping me put it in perspective- no one cares, do what you want. I spent more time angsting over it than addressing the envelopes.

ETA: I took advantage of a Shutterfly promo for free return address labels, so only wrote out the addressee.

I wrote my STDs in cursive and they turned out pretty nice. I'm planning on writing the addresses for the invitations that way also. I did a little at a time so my hand didn't cramp. I did labels for the return address.

I did mine in cursive. I liked the personal touch. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't care if I received one with a label, but my mother is a thank you card Nazi and I was just raised to do it personally. I had return labels printed to match my blue envelopes, though.

I hand wrote the STDs, but for the invites we downloaded a pretty calligraphy font and printed clear 2x4 labels- it looked really nice. We used the same font on the interior as well, just done using a plotter.

We did clear labels for addresses and return addresses. I would've loved to have a fancy, hand-addressed invite but it wasn't in the budget. Clear labels looked fine.

I love labels as a general rule!
