KWR - Skipping period - your experiences?

MrsVoegs17, on August 28, 2017 at 11:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

My period comes at the same time and day every month, like clockwork, and is scheduled to arrive the day of our wedding. My plan was to skip my placebos and go right into my next pack to skip my period, but after talking to some people, I am gathering that many of the symptoms are still there. During my period, I get extremely bloated (like 10 pounds of bloat), bad cramps, and super emotional. Since I am already struggling with this irrational fear of not fitting into my dress, I'm worried about being too bloated to fit in my dress and that I'll look awful in pictures. My current pack runs out in 3 days, so my period will arrive this weekend. I am wondering what any of your experiences were with skipping a period, and if I should skip my period this month to offset my period for next month, or if I should just skip it next month and pray for the best as far as my symptoms go? I have never intentionally skipped a period like this, so I am not sure what to expect. What do you all think??

My doc actually wrote out my prescription as skipping placebos to suppress my period. I just don't skip them because I like to have my period for peace of mind.

I never think it is a good idea to intentionally skip periods, especially if you have never done it yourself, your wedding is not a good time to try it. I think you should take your BC as normal and deal with your period as normal. Keep midol and chocolate close at hand, a heating pad if you need. There may be other medicines to help with bloating, if that is your main concern. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about over the counter options for that.

Due to severe and dangerous heavy bleeding I have to go about this method to avoid any further damage. This is completely fine to do however, just note that since you hadn't experimented with this before, it may not work fully as you would like it. You might still have spotting and discomfort. If your period is intolerable then I would say this will at least alleviate it.

I have never had any side effects either. My gyn told me I could do this for up to 3 months at a time but then I needed to have q period. Just keep in mind skipping will make you run short later on with your prescription.

You can have your doctor write you a script that states you are to skip the placebos and your insurance will cover it, it's just seen as a change of dosage in a sense. That's what I have done.

I only plan to skip it this one time. I'm just mostly worried about bloating. Like I continually have dreams that I go to put on my dress the day of and it doesn't fit. I've been going to try it on like every 2-3 weeks over the last couple of months. This last time, FMIL came with me and was seemingly struggling to get my hook and eye at the top of my zipper clasped.. but the consultant seemed to have no issues, so I guess I'm just freaking out even more than usual. I have already stocked up on water pills that I intend to start taking the week of the wedding. Having my period wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I'm sure FH would be a little bummed that I would have it on our wedding and mini moon but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I skipped once and I probably won't do it again. I was extremely cranky, hormonal, and crampy, but I didn't have any spotting. Wasn't worth it!

Maybe your doctor can answer the questions better re: symptoms

I used to skip placebo pills all the time with no issues. It is actually recommended because you do get less symptoms and no period with no adverse effects. But, of course, it affects everyone differently. You could try skipping this month and if you are okay then also skip next month. There is no harm in skipping for like 6 months-12 months.

I've done this many times. If you skip the placebos and go right into your next pack, you shouldn't experience any side effects. For me, at least, its like just skipping ahead a week to avoid my period. No big deal.

First, call your OBGYN. I am currently skipping and by the time the wedding comes around I will have skipped 3 sets of placebos as recommended by my doctor so that I won't have it during my honeymoon. I am on a low dose, I think it's Kariva or Viorelle, as the generic name.

So far no issues, no cramping, etc. That probably means I'll have a terrible one once I stop skipping. Oh Well!

I've never had any issues skipping my placebos and going straight into the next pill pack! No cramps, breakthrough bleeding, anything. But if I were you, I would start the next pill pack immediately after your remaining three this month, instead of risking it for next month, just to be safe!

I sent my doctor an email through my online chart to see what she thinks. I am thinking maybe I should skip placebos for the next two packs and I should be good to go. Thanks for sharing your experiences with me. I figured some real life experiences would be helpful!

Everyone is different. When I used to skip the placebos i had no side effects. It was just like any other day, no period. I then switched to the shot which got rid of my periods but I still got cramping once a month. I've never been one to bloat a ton on my period, so bloating wasn't noticeable.

I tried to skip placebos once while on vacation. It worked to delay my period for two weeks, then I had one week of spotting followed by a week-long period and another week of spotting - all starting when I was still on the active pills.

Skipping routinely for some people seems to work. For me, skipping the one time worked to get me through vacation, but the weeks after were rough. Your body will do what it wants - Good luck.

This could be a 5 min conversation with a nurse or doctor over the phone. Please just call them and let's leave medical advice off public forums.

I talked to them. They said I could try skipping placebos for the next two months but there are no guarantees it will do what I want it to. I am looking to hear from other people on their experiences.

I've skipped periods several times - worst I've ever had was light spotting - but I found if i take my pill late (like even within hours) on the 2nd pack, I start to get PMS symptoms. Never had a problem though, especially not bloating or mood swings, I just get crampy and spot a little

Every time I skipped, I would start spotting the day my period was due, and spot an entire month. Not worth it to me.
