KWR - New SNS "dip" nails. Anyone try these?

FutureMrsBueno, on February 22, 2017 at 12:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I recently heard about SNS nails, and their new nail system with dip powders. It's supposed to be better than the gel nails since there's no UV lamp for drying, and it's made with natural ingredients. I've made an appointment to try them this Friday, and if they're as good as they claim I'll do them for the wedding too. But I thought I'd check in here to see if anyone has tried them, and what your experience was? My nails can be pretty difficult, they peel, crack and break pretty easily even when I'm consistently taking vitamins and biotin. I liked the way gels looked, and how long they lasted, but my nails seemed to get weaker when I had them, either from the gel polish, or maybe the removal process. Acrylics have always been even worse. So I want to make sure I'm not making my nails weak before I need them to look nice for our big day.

I've been doing this for a while now at my nail salon, and I love it. You get the look of acrylics without doing all of that damage to your nails. The powders that they dip your nails in during the process are supposed to be good for your nails and make them stronger. My favorite part about it is how gentle the removal process is; you soak your nails in a bowl while rubbing them against a paper towel, and it comes off fairly quickly. Only slight downside for me is that you can't get refills like you can with acrylics. I definitely recommend it and I hope you have a good experience!

Thank you YMC! The removal process was the thing I was worried about the most. I don't mind not doing refills and paying more to have them completely re-done if they don't wreck my nails.

Omg I love SNS. We also have a brand here in NY called ANC, but it's the same thing. It's WONDERFUL. My nails are so much stronger with it and way less damaged than with gel or acrylics. I get them every 2-3 weeks Smiley smile

Thanks R&B! You ladies are making me feel less nervous about trying something new on my nails! I had nightmares of making them worse than they already are and having little stubby nails on our day

How do I find a place that does this instead of gel manicures? I really want to try it! Is there a generic name for it?

@Maui Call around to your local nail salons and ask if any of them carry SNS, or if they do "dipping powder" manicures.

@Maui...I saw an ad and googled it. Go to www.snsnails.com, and look at the salon finder. I'm so excited to try them!

Yes, love them--they are stronger than shellac and last almost three weeks.

Love them!!! I would never go back to regular gel.

I type 11 hours a day and no nail breaking at all! I finally have freedom and save money from doing the powder! You'll love it

I haven't heard of this before! Are these typically cheaper or more expensive than gel???? Very interested!

I used them for about 6 months. Honestly, they ruined my nails - it took a good 3 months to get them back to normal.

However, while I used the dip nails, they never ever cracked, peeled, or otherwise broke. I did love them - until I had to take them off.

ETA: Jennifer - I paid about $28 per appointment. Usually got them done every 3-5 weeks.

Anddd editing again: Here's a picture (kind of) of what the nails look like. This was obvi a ring shot but you can see my nails pretty decently.

Do they need to file / buff down your nail bed to apply the powder? I have lines about halfway grown out from acrylics and gels I had months ago ...I hate that!

@Jessica- I did have to have my nails buffed but not as much as they do for gels/acrylics. It was basically buff the nail bed, apply a special clear coat, dip nail in powder, shake off, then clear coat/dip/shake another 3-4 times.

LOVE the dipping gel/powder!!!! My natural nails are super long and strong now and they don't feel as heavy as with acrylics. You don't have to worry about lifting or nails breaking, it's great!!! I get mine a tab bit thicker because I workout with heavy weights weekly and don't want them to get chipped.

YES! I found out about it from a WW forum, and decided to give it a try. Loving it! I've had it on for 2 weeks now and they still look good. I was really happy about the no UV part. The real test will be what my nails look like after removal. But so far, so good.

Yup, love them. They are more expensive but if you ever want to take them off, they leave your nails healthy, not brittle like acrylic. I plan on doing them for my e-shoot then taking them off once they grow out. But the colors are endless, it lasts 3+ weeks, and it's really cool!
