Well I consider this wedding related. I received a notice yesterday in the mail that I have been summoned to serve as a juror in my county. The notice didn't look that important and I'm surprised I even opened it right away. I've actually always wanted to be selected for some reason but never have been until now. Problem is - its the Tuesday before my wedding. My ceremony and reception will be on Saturday but the night before we are doing a small Cambodian ceremony with just our parents and siblings. I guess I'm thinking worst case scenario - what if this drags on? My honeymoon is scheduled for the following week.

I got summoned and called the number on the letter. I informed them as an epileptic I am not allowed to drive and if they are not providing transportation (it was a 30 minute drive away) how was I supposed to serve. They said to disregard it and I haven't got one again as of yet. If there is a number call it and explain the situation they may excuse you without you having to go sit there all day to be excused.

They can also change your assignment if they deem it an excuse

As PPs said - it's usually fairly simple to get a deferment, no questions asked in most states. Not only am I a lawyer, but I am a PRO at jury duty.

I get called for jury duty all the time. In 3 different states. I have lived in Europe for 7 years!!!

I get called so often, that when I did live in the US, I would serve, then get called 2-3 times before the next time I was legally obligated to sever. It started about a month after I turned 18.

My mother, on the other hand, never was called once in her life.
