KWR: Job denying PTO--

I am so frustrated right now! My job has us on a "PTO freeze" and is denying any time off requests. I'm freaking out, thinking I won't even be able to get any time off for our honeymoon, and of course even possibly the wedding day! And I don't think there's anything at all I can do about it! I don't...

I'm freaking out, thinking I won't even be able to get any time off for our honeymoon, and of course even possibly the wedding day! And I don't think there's anything at all I can do about it! I don't know what the point is of accruing PTO time if we can't use it.

Anyone else ever been through this? Surely I can't be the only one.

Request off now. Explain it's for your wedding. If necessary, be "sick" on your wedding day haha. Consider postponing the honeymoon.

As someone who works in employment law, I wouldn't try to get legal about this. HR works for the company and isn't doing anything illegal. Even if you get PTO, you don't have the right to take it whenever you want (unless your employer promised that of course).

Ask now for the time off. When your wedding rolls around, take the time off. If you don't have a job when you go back, find a better one!

Talk to management and HR. We are denying PTO right now too because our hospital is getting a whole new charting system and everyone has to go through training so no one can go on vacation until July. However they are making exceptions for major life events like if you are getting married or having a baby. So they are letting me have vacation. Talk to them and see

Also I don't know what kind of job you have but maybe see if they will grant it if you get someone to agree to cover part of it

If they are understaffed and you are a good employee I think you have leverage to ask for time off, they are not going to risk loosing another good employee. Depends how much you need that job but if it were me I would just tell them these are the days I am going to be gone if its approved or not.

I bet they will be more willing than you think to make an exception for you.

I work for a company that is very strict with PTO. Although we don't have a straight-up freeze, we can really only take time off during periods when business is slow and nobody ever really takes more than a few days in a row. I will be taking two full weeks for my honeymoon, and nobody gave me any pushback on that. Managers are people, and they understand that major life events mean greater-than-average amounts of time off.
