KWR: Invisible Aligners

Karie, on May 18, 2017 at 3:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hello! My dentist recommended getting braces, but I did not want to do so as I am getting married in less than 5 months.I just signed up for Smile Direct Club since I can do it all from home, and they have invisible, removable aligners.. Are any of you planning on getting you teeth straightened before your big day? Anyone have any before and after or any tips for me?

If you have orthodontia issues I would go to a board certified dentist and get professionally fitted. If your wedding is this October, there is no way you are going to get any major correction.

    Following!

I did, planned on wearing a retainer for 6 months because my teeth shifted after braces, but my ortho broke the $500 retainer while putting it in my mouth. I need a different route....

I think you've missed your chance. Invisalign can take at least a year to straighten.

    Dunno about Smile Direct Club.

I've also heard it can be very painful to start.

Smile Direct Club consists of board certified orthodontists. They send you an impression kit and you take your impressions and send them pictures, and the come up with a personalized smile plan and send your aligners. I don't have to bad of teeth, but my one front tooth is a little rotated. They said I will complete the program in 4 months!

Braces don't look great but they hurt a lot less than the clear straighteners because it's constantly being switched out for a newer alignment. If you're younger (young 20's), your teeth will straighten faster

    How crooked are we talking?

I've got a corrective spring loaded retainer because I didn't wear my retainer after braces. It hurts like a bitch when I put it in after not wearing for a long time.

I would recommend this for small movements like a slight overlap or small movement (like MM small)

If you have absolutely crooked teeth - these wont work

and any route you take will be painful

I am 23, and have had braces before, but they shifted back slightly. I'm aware they will hurt, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

I used smile direct club! I was able to go to NYC to a smile direct club office and have them do the mold, so I cant comment on the mold kit that you can get in the mail. But I love it! The program they put me on was a 4 month plan. They emailed me what my teeth looked like and the progression of what they would look like after I finished before I committed to paying for them. Their customer service is great! I kind of fell off the wagon on wearing them, but it does work! It is much less expensive than going to a regular orthodontist.

FYI- you probably won't be done in 4 months. I had braces when I was younger and got invisalign to straighten out some shifting and crowding that had happened in the 10 years since I got my braces off. My invisalign treatment was suppose to only be 9 months and is ending up closer to 18 months.

I never had braces as a kid but a few years ago, I did do Invisalign. It took 11 months to complete. Let me tell you though, starting out it hurts like hell! I think there would be some change after a few months, but not significant enough to do it now bc 1. You'll have them out for your wedding day and most likely wouldn't want to worry about them on your honeymoon which 2. Will make you suuuuper sore to resume use after all that time. I'd suggest waiting. He loves you for you! No need to change everything now. You can wait!

I had braces twice as a kid and lost my retainers, and only needed 6 months of invisalign to correct it. Finishing up next month! It's time consuming, painful at times, but being able to take out the trays to eat and clean is far better than what I experienced with metal braces.

I'd be hesitant to do the smile direct club- You really need to get xrays to make sure you're a good candidate.

I'm on my third set of aligners through smiledirectclub. So far I love it! I think my plan is 14 weeks. Each set of trays is worn for two weeks. When you put in a new set of trays it hurts like hell but it goes away quickly. Best idea is to put in a new set of trays at night before you go to bed so you go to sleep and give your mouth time to adjust. My mouth is a little sore and irritated. I rinse with listerine for the irritation. Important to keep your aligners and mouth as clean as possible. So far I'm loving the experience and I really love the price tag! $1,500 for my set. No complaints here and looking forward to straight teeth with no gaps!

Depending on how severe you would need treatment. I've seen amazing results in less than 6 months. Do as they suggest but typically you'll need to wear each set about 2 wks I believe, then on to the next set. After all is said and done never stop wearing your retainer. Your teeth can and will shift back if you don't take care of them. Good luck! And remember your FH fell in love with your perfectly unperfect smile. So if this is something you want do it for you for your whole life not just for 1 day.

I started Invisalign in November, the day before we got engaged, and I've seen dramatic differences in my smile. It's been 6 months and I'm almost done with my first round, I have to be refitted in July and go through a few more trays to have a few teeth tweaked. But, if you start now you'll definitely see results in 4 months (it takes about a month from the time they take impressions until you get your trays). I wear mine for 10 days at a time, but you can also use an accelerator as well. Good luck!

I currently have braces and have had them since March 2016. They are due to come off in March 2018. Although I wanted Invisalign I was not a good candidate for them to correct my issues. Also, I started with all ceramic braces and some had to be switched to metal since some of the teeth were being stubborn and not moving.

I was going to do SDC too! I ended up not liking my treatment plan they proposed so I went with invisalign after doing 3 consults. So far the process is easy and pretty painless, with just some occasionally soreness. SDC's Facebook group cracks me up.
