KWR: how to prevent lipstain "crease" on lips

MrsC2B, on August 19, 2017 at 2:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I generally don't wear lip color. I have a couple of lipsticks from Nyx, which need to be reapplied every 3-4 hours- more frequently if I am eating and drinking.

I have been experimenting with long lasting lipstains for the wedding- mainly superstay from Maybelline and Rimmel 16-hr. These are are indeed long-lasting, but they crease badly in my lips, making it look like my lips are chapped or something. How do I prevent this from happening?

My lips are not normally dry because I apply vaseline on them regularly (and they don't look lined or chapped or anything). When I use the problem lipstains, it is not like they burn or irritate my lips, and my lips don't even feel dry or chapped. As far as prepping face is concerned, I have mostly used them on clean and moisturized face. Also, I never have the crease issue when I am using my regular-don't-last more-than-a-few-hours-lipsticks.

What can I do to prevent this? TIA!

    Try exfoliating your lips

I have no recommendations for those lip stains because I don't use them. Bare minerals has a great lipstick I wear daily. I reapply once during lunch (and sometimes I don't even have to do that). Agree, exfoliating might help. You could also try experimenting with a lip primer (ulta has a great one). As far as the lip stain, maybe experiment with other brands? Colour pop is a less expensive version. It looks like it's a gloss but it's a stain as soon as you apply.

I highly recommend colourpop. You definitely need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before applying any lip color. I wear lipstick almost every day, and if it's not on I'm always applying chapstick to keep them hydrated. I have an array of high end and drugsute brands and colourpop is probably one of my top favorites. The ultra mattes are non-transferable but they are pretty drying. I really enjoy the ultra satins

Buy a new lipstick!! Lol. Some brands just do that and there's no way around them. Try something more high-end.. I LOVE tarte's lipsticks

MAC Prep+Prime Lip hands down. I SWEAR by it. I couldn't use Matte lipsticks before I discovered it.

Make sure to exfoliate your lips beforehand.

My makeup artist used a red lip stain from givenchy post ceremony and it was phenomenal. It didn't crack and it stayed on the whole night. This included through eating and drinking. Look into a different brand. If it's a good stain it won't crack.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I do exfoliate, but I like the idea of a lip primer. And maybe invest in a higher end product. Thanks!

I love the lip sticks from MAC they last all day long I never have to reapply them and they go on smooth and keeps my lips looking nice. They are a little pricey compared to NYX but worth it. Anastasia Beverly hills also has a great lip pallet that has more variety. I also moisturizer my lips and prime them and use a setting spray on them afterwards it really helps make the color last

Lipsense is amazing! It stays all day and it doesn't transfer onto anything your lips touch. I've been using it for a couple months myself

I like lipsense because it comes with a gloss also so you don't have to worry about the dryness or creasing.

Yes, I read a lot of positive reviews about lipsense on WW and other sites. Will definitely try that.

Many long-wearing lipsticks are drying and have their own way of breaking up with eating/drinking which can be pretty gross.

TBH, regular lipsticks fade really nicely and reapplication shouldn't be that big of a deal. I would rather take a second to reapply a regular lip.
