Kitchen-less venue

Janay, on March 14, 2015 at 1:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I have been searching for venue for a very long time and I have finally found one and booked it. I am having a diy wedding and a friend of the family is going to cook and I am hiring servers. However the venue doesn't have a kitchen! When I first toured and booked the venue I didn't think it was a big deal but now I am starting to stress over where we will prep the food. I know we can use burners to keep it warm but what about the things we need to keep cool. There is just no where to store everything! Does anyone else have this problem? What are some good alternatives?

Wow, that's enough stress just diying the food yourselves. Coolers come to mind.

Consider a caterer--you might not spend too much more, maybe even save as they can provide everything you will need (plates, utensils, etc). and will serve and clean up. Then your friend can be a guest Smiley smile

This is the problem with self-catering. A professional would have known how to deal with a venue without a kitchen. That being said, there are styrofoam cooler boxes. I believe they will give you 48 hours of chill time. Now, this could get pricey (depending on what you need). Here's a link for an on-line provider. There's lots of information on it that you'll need to have.

Oh, hi Tina! Almost happy anniversary! I cannot believe it's been almost a year. The older I get, the faster they seem to go. I seem to keep passing you on threads, lol. Just wanted to say hi.

Sorry, OP -- I'm not hijacking your thread. I just wanted to say hi to a beloved WW alumna. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

You could rent chaffing dishes or even by those huge roasters for like $40 each. They work very well for cooking my Thanksgiving ham and turkey in. If several people are helping to cook, give them each a dish to prepare at home and keep them warm in those.

OMG, Tina, it's been a year? I hope married life is treating you well!

Now. To the catering. I'm not going to belabor the point, but you must keep hot things hot and cold things cold. Burners (like sternos) will keep things warm but it will take forever to get things up to the proper heat.

Please hire a caterer. They'll prep in a licensed kitchen, know how to keep things hot and cold, and by the time you rent the equipment you need, the servers you need and the Valium you'll need, it won't be that much more.
