Kissing Donations?

Andie , on August 25, 2019 at 12:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
I’d like everyone’s opinion here. I know the general consensus with honeymoon funds and dollar dances and the like is we shouldn’t be asking for money at our weddings and I 100% agree. I think it’s kind of tacky, personally.

However, what do you guys think about donations? I HATE the glass clinking for a kiss thing, so I was thinking maybe come up with a clever sign basically saying if you want us to kiss, make a donation to our favorite animal rescue (with a jar to collect money). Thoughts?

Eh..it falls into a foggy category. I personally never carry cash on me so I would not be able to donate regardless.

I think donations of any kind should be left out of weddings. Most guests don't carry cash and if they do they shouldn't be asked to open their wallet at a hosted event. I say this also because I'm personally not a fan of making people donate to a charity in lieu of a favor, etc.

Yeah. I get that, I don’t have cash on me a lot of the time either. I just don’t like the clinking for a kiss and am trying to think of a fun alternative.

I very rarely see that at weddings and we didn't have it. Could you just do without?

Ehh I think you are better off donating to the organization and putting a little note on each persons plate stating that in lieu of favors, a donation was made on your behalf

I’ve seen it done and it makes me cringe. Maybe we’ll have no mention of it at all. And if someone does try to clink their glass, we’ll just ignore it lol.

I’m not a fan of the clinking. But I almost cringe even more about the idea of putting a dollar value on it. Yikes! I’d skip this. If you have people you suspect that will do the clinking, just try to speak to them in advance and explain that you really appreciate their enthusiasm but want to be able to spend as much time with your guests as possible so ask that they please limit/avoid doing it.

It is obnoxious to have the couple do any kiss on demand, like dogs doing a trick on command. It is annoying and distracting to people having a conversation, and anyone not high or drinking. It is sweet when a couple occasionally kisses, when they feel especially affectionate. My kids get a kick out of telling our dogs, to kiss, or shake hands, or cover their eyes, then get a petting or a bit of cheese. Doing it for coins or bills, you still appear like trained dogs or monkeys. It is not the money that is the problem. It is appearing like dogs, monkeys, and circus animals who do tricks on request .
