King's Table

Janae, on September 2, 2018 at 10:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19

My fiancé and I are deciding what type of seating arrangement that we would like to have for our reception. I would love to see examples of King's Tables (especially those without the bride and groom at the head of the table). Real wedding examples have been difficult to find via Pinterest and Google.

We plan to do our King’s table at a regular round table. It will be me, FH, matron of honor and her husband, best man and his wife, and bridesmaid and groomsman (they’re married to each other). It works well for us because we each only have 2 people on each side of the bridal party.

Googling “King’s table wedding” showed me a ton of examples. Sometimes google is tricky and you have to get the wording right for a good search.

Are you just wanting rectangular long tables for the whole reception or just the wedding party? I have never heard of them referred to as kings table, maybe that why you are having a hard time?

A King's Table is an alternative head table. I intend to seat the bridal party and their guest(s) so as to not separate them from their SOs. The main difference is that seating at the King's Table is typically on both sides of the table whereas the head table is along the single side.

Thank you for sharing. I think that this would also work for us if we had a smaller bridal party, but, since we have four on each side, it may be a bit much with their significant others.

Thank you for the tip. For some reason these didn't show up when I was looking.

I learned this terminology through WW and thought that I might be able to find what I was looking for directly in this way. I'm planning to have the long, rectangular tables just for the wedding party, but I'm not looking for a head table where they are seated on just a single side as I don't want to separate them from their loved ones who will be attending.

We have a fairly large wedding party (6 on each side) and are doing a King's Table, though we didn't know it's called that! We will have 3 of the 8ft rectangular banquet tables lined up and seat wedding party members across from their SOs. The only people without someone across from them will be my FH and me, so that we aren't obscured.

We did two 8 ft rectangular tables and a smaller table in the middle for my husband and I. We had 4 each on our sides plus the significant others.

We are also doing a King's Table (did not know that this type of seating arrangement had an official name!) but for us and the bridal party. This is our table arrangement - we will be sitting at the table in between the two long rectangular tables. This worked for us because only two bridal party members had respective SO's. If you have more people, it obviously will not.

Jumping on this thread very late as I try to figure out our seating arrangements. I have some questions, if you can help answer them:

    1. Do you think it would've worked better to seat couples next to each other rather than across the table?

    2. Were you and your husband both on the same side of the table unobscured? Didn't this mean you had your backs to some of the guests?

    3. Is there anything you would've changed about doing a king's table?

    Thanks!

    1. Everyone seemed to like being across from their SOs, but most of our wedding party knew each other so it made for easy conversation with everyone.

    2. We were on the same side of the table. Our head table was along a wall, so our backs were to the wall and we faced all of our guests. The only people who did not face the guests were the SOs of the wedding party.
    3. Wouldn't have changed anything. Our wedding party/SOs thanked us for not separating them, we had great conversations, and it made us feel less like we were just up there on display.

Thank you! My fiancé and I are the first of our friends to get married, so it's nice to get some input from other people who have done it more recently than our parents Smiley smile

Hi Sarah! We didn't end up doing a King's Table because we decided to have a game at the guest tables to help our friends get to know one another. Our original plan for the King's Table was to seat couples on opposite sides with my husband and me facing as many guests as possible. The other complication we had were the logistics of the King's Table for wedding party members with children. In the end, we realized that the sweethearts table worked best, and many of our guests enjoyed the game. We were happy with the choice.

Glad it worked out so well for you! I love the idea, but logistically I can understand why people do head tables and sweetheart tables instead. It's a bit of a nightmare!
