King Table Seating

The Nuptials, on April 24, 2018 at 9:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

We will have king tables for the majority of our guest, and definitely for our nearest and dearest friends. We value our friends over blood family, our friends are doing a champagne lunch in the suite with us, hair, make up (that we are paying for), and friend photos. This is not a traditional bridal party as we didn't want to hold people to the associated time and money. It is important to us that they are seated close to us [not enough room for all at the head table] and that they are comfortable!

Anyways, for king tables are most people sitting couples across from one another or next to one another? If it matters, we have lamps every few feet on the tables that we cannot move. We will have place cards as well.

I had to google “King’s Table”—I’ve never heard them called this, but I like it!! At a friends wedding we sat at these types of tables and couples were seated next to each other, I recommend that arrangement!

We are doing them next to each other. Are you doing the actually size “Kings” table as well? If so I would suggest next to one another as it is easier to talk. Just a personal preference though.

They aren't that wide, probably three feet or so, like the size of a regular table you would find in an office etc. We are eating in a library from the 1800s and the tables have been there that long as well!

We sat the couples next to each other so they could easily talk to each other.

I like this approach. H and i have been split across the table at a King's table before where he was in the WP and i didn't really know anyone, and it was sort of awkward--so much nicer if you can sit right next to your partner!

I think you can do it either way, but please do indicate that to your guests with actual place cards at each seat. One of my biggest complaints about long tables vs. round is you never know if you're supposed to sit next to or across from your SO, and if not everyone at the table does the same thing, then some people are left without a proper seat or separated from their SO.

Yes! We will definitely have place cards, we have a seating chart at cocktail hour. I can see just one person throwing everything off.

Is there a specific person you have in mind that you don't think will follow the place cards? I can't imagine going to a wedding, seeing my name at a particular, assigned seat, and then taking it upon myself to sit somewhere else!
