Kilts/kilt rental USA

Jennifer, on April 27, 2017 at 8:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

We are having a Scottish theme wedding and love the idea of having the groom and groomsmen in kilts. I haven't been able to find any kilt rental places close to the Boston area, but found Kiltrentalusa.com. Every thing seems great except the gear comes the Monday before the wedding (they won't give more wiggle room, I asked). Thats enough to put me on edge-they said if anything doesn't fit they can overnight it with a new size. Has anyone had any experience with this company? Is it worth the stress (i.e. how do I not turn into a crazy person with such a tight deadline? )

FH is Scottish and Irish, Scottish on his father side. So not 100%. And my Scottish theme I really mean the guys will wear kilts and there will be a bagpiper outside the chapel.

So he's 50% or less Scottish and you're basing your wedding around it?

They are called tartans. And do a little research my last name is part of the Fraser Clan. It may require a little work but totally worth it.

I don't have any advice you've not gotten already but wanted to say your wedding sounds really cool. I have a little Scottish in me (I'm a mutt) and love everything about it. Happy planning!!

I'm on the team of, don't do it if it's not actually part of your heritage, and especially if he doesn't have his own tartan. Sounds like appropriation to me.

We're having a kilted wedding party! My FH and his BM (his son) are wearing their family tartan (MacDonald Lord of the Isles). We purchased the tartans themselves from heritageofscotland.com, which is where my FH gets all of his kilts (seriously he has about 10). We rented jackets, vests, sporrans, and shoes from Lothian Kilt Rentals in Dunedin, FL. We're local to them, so we were able to go to the store and get everything taken care of, but they do online rentals too.

I second most of what FB99 said, but I'd also add--there are occupational tartans that can be worn by those who may not know their family one. My BIL, who is a groomsman, is wearing "Clergy Grey Modern" because he wasn't able to trace his exact family history and wasn't comfortable wearing a family one. He's a pastor, so it works.

We were both born in the US, but have direct Scottish and Irish heritage (he's 5th generation, I'm 4th generation). My family came over during the potato famine, and his very Catholic family fled because of religious persecution.
