Kids table

Ashlei, on January 14, 2020 at 12:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 15
I have 7 siblings who all have kids, my FHs brothers both have kids and most of our friends have kids so we have about 30 kids invited to our wedding and about 80 adults total. So we are planning on doing a kids table! I have some general ideas but would love other ideas of things to add! We’re thinking crayons and coloring books and like a “party pack” of random little prize type gadgets, my FH is going to make giant Jenga, and maybe bring corn hole boards? Any other things that will help keep the little ones distracted? I’m open to any ideas!

Hand puppets, picture books, stuffed animals. Avoid any game that includes throwing or tossing anything.

I purchased games and activity books at the💲🌴.

You can make activity packs by removing pages from the book, place them together, punch a hole in a corner and tie them together with Curling 🎀.

    I suggest:
younger kids: coloring, color by number, Dot-to-Dot, find an item on the page, and unscramble (possibly Wedding-related words).
Older kids: Crossword, Search a Word, and Sudoku.

My suggestion would be a babysitter. Young kids can’t occupy themselves for long periods of time by themselves, especially when in a strange environment and one with so much fun and excitement as a wedding. Especially if they are all under 7, that’s a recipe for disaster without any adult supervision. Also, keep in mind some may not want to be apart from their parents as they may get shy in that type of environment. I think it’s a great idea to have a kids table and to have things to occupy them, but as a mother I wanted to bring up the craziness kids can get into on their own!

Have you talked to the parents about this? Most the parents I know that have younger kids (under 7) want their kids to sit by them while they eat so they can make sure they eat enough & behave & they can take them to the restroom if needed. We also have some friends with shy kids that would not be interested in sitting away from their parents. We had a "kids room" with coloring books & puzzles & a movie that kids could hangout in if they wanted to, but we sat them by their parents during dinner.

I guess I should rephrase this. The “kids table” isn’t for dinner. It’s for after when people are hanging out and the kids don’t want to sit still. Like a little activity station so to speak. They would still sit by their parents while it’s dinner time, just gives them something afterwards to play with while their parents chat/dance/hang out etc.

I personally wouldn't do a kids table for children that young. They oftentimes still need their parents to cut their food up for them (stepmom to a 7 year old here) and just general discipline is needed, especially for an occasion like a wedding. Just my opinion, though. I know if my son was seated at a different table at that age, I'd be a little hesitant in letting him be there alone at a wedding. At a family party, sure, but a wedding where he needs to be on his best behavior? That would make me nervous.

As for ideas, I like the coloring books/crayons. Basically, I'd go to the dollar store and just grab a bunch of little things for the kiddos. We had 8 kids 12 and under at mine, and didn't even do that and they were fine. You have a lot more kids, so I think it's a pretty great idea! I had actually thought of doing that (like kiddie bags) but then forgot.

Yeah I guess I worded this poorly, they will still be with their parents for dinner the table is for after dinner! For little activities to keep them busy while mom and dad hang out. Like a kids corner! I can only image my nephews trying to sit at a table alone and eat 😂 someone would be crying and someone would be mad 😂

    Ahh, gotcha!

I think just offering those items is very generous; unless if you have a disposable income, I wouldn't pay for an extra table (if you would have to) for that. Having those little bags for the kids is really thoughtful and nice. A lot of people definitely don't think that way!

My venue has a lot of tables for use at no extra charge! So I wouldn’t have to pay any extra for 1 table on the side for the kiddos to stay occupied! And about 15 of the kids are our nieces and nephews and I couldn’t imagine getting married without them there, but I know how not fun a wedding can be for kids and how fussy kids can be not fun for parents, so if I can give them something to keep them occupied and playing and let mom and dad relax and have fun too it’s a win win for me!

Oh I hear you! We couldn't imagine getting married without ours there, either! ANd honestly, it was kind of an attention take-awayer (great grammar, right?). The kids were so flippin' cute in their little suits and dresses that everyone gawked over them even more than me (and Iw as cool with it!). Smiley smile

Yes! We’re not huge fans of all the attention so if we can pull some attention off of us on to them we are happy to share the spotlight 😂

Worked for us! Smiley smile We hate being center of attention so the little ones were a great distraction! Especially my (then) 2 month old niece. Smiley smile

Hire a babysitter or seat the kids with parents. Kids love to dance if you're having a dj.
