Kids Role in the Wedding

Lindsey, on October 17, 2014 at 1:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I'm look at what kind of roles that you can think of or have heard of that kids have played in weddings. I'm going to have about 12 kids that are going to participate in our wedding. We have lots of family and it is our wish to included them as it is very important to have them. We will be having 2 ring bearers 2 flower girls, 2 God children, and about 5-7 kids for a kids parade at the beginning of the processional. i guess my question is what would you have the god children do to be included in the processional. I was thinking of having them carry a cross or something of the sort.

    It depends on ages

    But

    Flower girls

    Page boys

    Ring bearer

    Bridesmaids

    Jr. Bridesmaids

If you have a train - a pageboy/bm/fg to carry it

    Groomsman

    Jr. groomsman

    Usher

They can do most roles (even Best man and Best woman/MOH) it just depends on your wedding, what you want and what is the norm where you are/your family

I have 3 flower girls, a ring bearer, and a junior bride all under the age of 6. My 15 yr old brother is a groomsman.

I'm having just a flower girl & ringer bearer. Both are FSIL's kids. Ringer bearer is also our godson. My other godson, my sister's son, is going to be 15 yrs old. I told him the only thing I expect from him is to dance at least once with his godmother. I was surprised that he said ok. Love that kid!

Page boy is a very different think in the UK. (I had never heard of it before coming here). Think Flower girl but the male equivalent. Traditionally they may carry the train if you have one. A ring bearer is actually a particular type of Page boy so they are not separate things. But basically boy version of flower girl

I have 7 nieces that all want to be a part of the wedding, which I don't really have a huge problem with. I was thinking that all the young ones can be flower girls and maybe all drop different colored flowers. The older ones will walk our ring bearing Yorkies down the aisle if we go that route. We'll probably end up leaving the pups at home though so I'll have to think of a new thing for them to do.

Children cannot be an official MOH or best man. The official MOH and best man have to sign the marriage license and be 18 years old. But our son is his honorary best man. Older son is ring bearer. Cousin is flower girl.

Cassandra- not all weddings have the MOH and BM sign the register. I have been to more than a few weddings where they had people do those roles and then their parents or someone else was their witnesses

My FH was telling me when his sister got married their younger brother and another girl cousin (huge age gap with siblings) were the mini bride and groom. There's two more positions!

@Cassandra - In Texas no one signs the register except the officiant so it doesn't matter. Plus, it doesn't even have to be the MOH or the BM - I've seen a special aunt or grandmother sign it if it was required in the state.
