Kids menu?

Trish, on February 9, 2018 at 11:03 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
We are inviting kids to our wedding because we have 2 of our own. We have a good amount of friends/family with younger kiddos, and I've brought my own to the last few weddings we went to.

My issue is my kiddos will NEVER eat the wedding food. I think the last time we went to a wedding they both just ate rolls because they were served the same meal as everyone else.

Has anyone ever had a kids menu? Like chicken nuggets, fries, Mac and cheese, etc? I'm wondering how to put that option out there.

We had a kids menu option of chicken finngers and fries. We only had around a dozen kids under 10 so I reached out to the parents and asked if they wanted them at or the adult option. Most chose the children’s menu option.

I would talk to your caterer to see if they offer a kids menu. My venue offers chicken tenders and fries plus it is cheaper than the buffet.

Did you reach out separately from the invites? Or was the kids meal included on your invitation?

Good idea! We're being served and the venue does the catering for us so maybe I'll call them and see if that's an option!

We did it separate because we served the adults family style and didn’t include entree selection on the invites.

My venue automatically served chicken fingers and fries to the 3 kids we had there, they do that for anyone 9 and under.

We have a children's meal, but not a full menu. They could either chose a meal we were offering or the children's meal. We only have three children coming to our wedding though so we didn't need to have a ton of options. My son and FH's niece are very picky eaters and are definitely having the chicken nuggets for the kids, but my nephew who plays football and baseball eats a lot more than the other two and will probably pick an adult meal.

My venue offers pizza, hambuger and chicken tenders for the kids. A kid friendly menu is always helpful for them.

Talk to your caterer. I only have 2 kids coming my sister's 9-year-old and my step-sister's 8-year-old. My sister asked if she could have a kid's meal and our venue (who is doing the catering) gave me all the options and I just called my sister and asked her what my nephew would eat. I texted my step-sister and asked her if her son would want a kid's meal and she said he would be fine with the chicken option that we have, so it turned out being just one kid's meal and we did it over the phone, I didn't give my sister a special invite. If you have a few kids, I think that's an easy thing to do. If you have a lot of kids, you may just want to pick one and list kid's meal: chicken fingers and fries (or whatever option you pick), so people just select kid's meal. Your RSVP card might get a bit crowded if you list your adult choices plus 2-3 kid's meal choices. If it's not a lot of kids and you want to customize more, you could also put something on your RSVP or details card that says, "if you require a kid's menu, please contact (contact info) to see all the options.

Yea good idea. We do have about 20ish kids so I think it would be hard to contact each one individually. Maybe I'll just make it a kids platter and put a few options on the plate and just offer kid meal as an option instead of options for the kids. If that makes sense. Ha Ha!

We only had four kids at our wedding - ages 2, 4, 7, and 9. We reached out to their parents and asked if they preferred chicken fingers or a cheese pizza Smiley smile

My caterer offers a kids menu. As people RSVP I know if their kid is under 12. I'm having a buffet, so I'm unclear if I pick one option and that's what all the kids get or I need to pick one meal for all kids. I'll probably reach out (since I don't have a lot and the kids are of close family). If I just pick one for the buffet I'll just ask my sister which one her daughter wants and make all the kids eat that one.

We are totally doing a kids option. On the RSVP it says include guest count for meal: Buffet, vegan/gluten free, and children. We are also going to have a separate table for children food. I'm sure you know how hard it is getting a plate for child plus your own and you hold up the line. I've heard from other brides that guests will take the children option along with a buffet option. On that table we will provide chicken fingers, mac n cheese, fruit display and a child gift bag to keep them entertained for a bit. Glow sticks, pack of goldfish, crayons.
