Kids meal?

Cara, on July 12, 2018 at 10:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
We have a decent number of young children (ages 1-9) coming to our wedding. Our venue does a pasta kids meal for kids 12 and under. How do I put that on the invitation/RSVP card that children 12 and under will be receiving kids meal? Other guests will be picking their menu choice on the RSVP card.

I would list "Children's Meal (pasta)" along with the other entree choices so that people can check that box too if need-be.

Is the pasta meal the only option for kids under 12? I know some kids under 12 that will eat an actual meal. What if the guest do not select a kids meal for their child because it's pasta? Is there a huge difference in costs between the kids meal and adult meal?

We only have one kid who is 9, the rest of the kids are 7 and under. Our adult meals are significantly more expensive (about $90 more) and include bar access. Most of the kids in our families aren’t big eaters (and are Italian) so I don’t think the pasta option will be a problem I’m just unsure of how to put it on the invite.

If there is a large price difference between adult and kids meals and you aren't going to allow those under 12 to have an adult meal (I understand exactly why!), maybe a phrase on the RSVP similar to,

"Guests under the age of 12 will be served a child's pasta entree."

We listed the meal options on the RSVP card for people to check. I would list the kids meal option with a box by it and list what it is and how many needed if they have multiple kids.

    Kids meal? 1

    Kids meal? 2

I put my children's meal as an option on the RSVP card just like the other choices and I put (under 12) next to it.

When I did this, I indicated that I needed meal selections for all adults and that a children's meal is being prepared for the children. The cost difference is HUGE so I did not want the option of parents selecting an adult meal for a child. It actually worked perfectly..... of the 28 kids attending my wedding, none of the parents tried to select an adult entree for them. Kids defined as 12 and younger.

Well, I did online RSVP so I probably have a bit more flexibility than those trying to fit things on a small RSVP card but here is what i did:

Please select a meal choice for each adult attending. Note there is a children's meal that will be provided for all children attending.

Under menu selections you could put in small font "Please mark adult's meal choices. Children 12 and under will be receiving a kid's meal.", just so people know! Then they can mark the adult choices.
