Kids at the bridal shower?

bridalfever, on January 19, 2015 at 11:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

3 of my bridesmaids have kids (age 3 and under) my sister does not want kids at the bridal shower and she's nervous about wording it to the bridesmaids. The location is at a bar, early afternoon- not really an appropriate place to bring kids but I am sure they will still want to. What's your take on this? Are you allowing children at your shower?

I don't care about kids being at the shower...but they aren't invited to a wedding. I don't think I have been to too many showers where children were brought...usually they are left with the dad or another relative since they tend to happen on Sundays right smack in the middle of the afternoon where a sitter is easier to find.

Personally, I don't think the children SHOULD there, especially since it will be held at a bar. Maybe your MOH (or yourself) know of a teenager that the MOH could let your bridesmaids know would be available to babysit during the shower since they all have so much to help with in regards to setting up the shower and doing things during it.

There are going to be at least four children at my shower (all close family members, one of which is my flower girl, and another is my ring bearer.), we are also having the shower at my moms house. I think a bar isnt the best place though. Just have her gently mention that your having an adult friendly shower, and maybe ever help them find sitters?

There are a bunch of kids at my shower, but mostly because they're family and it's held in my parent's backyard. A bar is pretty inappropriate for kids. If the bridesmaid with kids knows it's at a bar, she should understand. Theres a time and a place.

I also say no. To me, that's kind of an adult party. I mean I guess it isn't always, but if someone gives you lingerie... anyway - I told my MOH to word it however she'd like. She's going to say the venue does not accommodate children.

Sitters aren't an issue, two are married and the other lives with her boyfriend, there are plenty of sitters to go around. The only child is the jr bridesmaid and she's 7. My sister just wants to avoid hurt feelings- it's not a personal choice it's just hard to have 5 kids under 3 running around with 40-45 adults trying to mingle.

I think if it's at a bar & they know that they probably WONT be bringing children. I wouldn't take my own or someone else's child into a bar, afternoon or not. Plus I've never been to a BS that I assumed, unless specifically told to bring them, to bring a child with me.

I am very much in the anti-child wedding camp, but the shower? Don't care. Would I bring my child to a bar? Probably not. If someone else wants to expose their child to that kind of atmosphere, that's on them. I would just let it be and let the BMs make the decision as to whether or not they want to bring them.

I did but mine was at home so I let my little sister (Flower Girl) invite her friends. I don't think it's appropriate for your situation though.
