Kids and Ceremonies

Lauren, on May 13, 2019 at 5:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
I come from a fairly large family, and I. Sure many brides can relate to this. Roughly 20 of my wedding guests (that’s 15%) are minors. I don’t count my siblings and children who have a job to do (8 children), but the other 12-13 are 10 and under (mainly new and old nieces and nephews, young cousins, plus one baby because his father is performing at our wedding).

I concerned about two things: 1.) Noise/Whining/Crying during our ceremony and 2.) Wasting our food.

I know the sounds like a small number, but kids are unpredictable. It’s why every event isn’t for them. I don’t have plans to exclude them obviously, but I need a potential “damage control plan.” Is strategic seating enough? Thoughts?

S/n: I just sent out invitations by mail today (Small Victories). 79 Days To Go.

We had kids at ours and had no issues. We sat kids with their parents and had kids meals. I’m not really sure there’s much you can do besides trust their parents to handle whatever happens.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Their parents barely had any kids at their wedding. I have about 17-18. That’s a large amount. I just don’t want my special moment ruined.

Outside of having an adults only wedding I don’t think there’s anything you can do, I’m sorry.

I'd hope that their parents would help them with the food situation (I'm assuming this is a buffet situation.)
The only time I've ever had an issue at a wedding with kids was at a reception when one mother just decided letting all 5 of her children run wild was a good idea... and then couldn't understand how one smacked the ground with their face. 🤦‍♀️
Hopefully the parents you invited are better than that.

    But yay for small victories!

A table with coloring books and/or other small toys to keep them occupied. I saw that at a wedding at it was a huge hit

An adults only wedding wouldn’t be possible in this case, unfortunately. Thanks for the advice though.

I think they are better than that. I can foresee one couple whose kids could be potentially noisy or restless for a morning wedding. I’m hoping they don’t bring them.

That could be an idea for the kids under 10. Thanks.

I like the kids coloring book. What ages would you do suggest? Under 12?
