Keyhole Back Dress Dilemma

Kristina, on April 18, 2016 at 10:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

The dress I fell in love with has a keyhole back and a fairly low neckline making it impossible to wear a regular strapless bra. However, my DD girls are going to need a pushup of some sort. Any brides out there have a similar problem? What are you using to make the girls look perky?

Do you have a picture of it? Usually the seamstress can sew cups in your dress and if it is structured enough it should be fine. But just to be safe why don't you try it on and ask in the alterations department of the bridal store?

I don't have a solution but I can sympathize! I became pregnant after ordering my dress and now I'm worried about what bra to wear lol.

Go to a specialty lingerie shop with a picture of your dress. They can find something that will work for you. This is the back of my dress and I'm an F cup. In this photo I am wearing a low back bustier but it's not low enough. If you look closely you can see it through the lace near my waistline. I ended up buying a regular bustier/long line bra, and my seamstress is going to cut off the back and sew the front into the dress. She said this would be way more supportive than just cups, or a regular strapless bra (cut and sewn in). You just need a good bra fitter and a good seamstress!

Cups sewn into the dress sound like at least a partial solution. You could also google low back bras. I know I have seen some online when I was looking up bridal undergarments. Might be better than nothing (says the girl with a modest C)!

One of my bridesmaids has this problem with her dress. At the bridal shop when we were trying on dresses, she chose a halter top dress for more support for her girls. We thought the dress had a cute little keyhole in the back. Well, it turns out, it was the way the sample was clipped that made it look that way. What the dress actually has in the back is an entire back opening from neck to waist with sheer sides, and the front armholes are very low cut in the boob area. If that description makes any sense at all.

What our alterations lady did for her was sew in cups and add some extra boning, plus advised her to get those chicken cutlet things too. Then she tightened the dress up so it is very snug and the girls don't have any room to move. It doesn't look bulky but she has a lot of reinforcement to keep her in the dress.

I definitely don't have DDs but we had extra boning and cups sewn into mine. I feel like I'm not going anywhere!

I am an F cup. The back of my dress is all lace, so the intimate apparel shop I went to suggested a long line bra. We removed some of the hooks and "tucked" the back in until it was not visible, then altered the back of the bra so it will not show through the lace. I also could not go strapless, the girls would not stay up where they belonged. So I bought clear straps to give them some extra support. I do not have a strapless dress (it's lace on top) so you cannot see the clear straps.

I suggest finding a lingerie shop that can fit you properly and make suggestions for the style of undergarments that will work best with your dress.

Gorgeous dress! Concerns about this exact issue kept me from trying on a lot of really beautiful dresses, which I regret now. All the options others have offered (cups, boning etc) are great. You'll need an alterations specialist to give you specific advice, however.

First, your dress is beautiful! I like the idea of the seamstress adding support into the dress. Sounds like a good strategy.
