Key Largo honeymoon

Teresa, on July 5, 2017 at 11:49 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

I'm headed out to Key Largo after my wedding, and while I've been there plenty of times with my family, we never went to may places other than the pool and beach and such. We have a place to stay, and I've been making a list of places to visit/eat at, but I was wondering if anyone has ideas for fun, cheap things to do in the Key Largo/Key West area.

We went to Key West a few years ago, and LOVED it! Also went to Islamorada and could take or leave it. In Key West we did a sailboat wine tasting sunset cruise that was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend it. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34345-d642768-r100662873-Danger_Charters-Key_West_Florida_Keys_Florida.html

Key West and Key Largo are about an hour apart.

I'm much more familiar with Key Largo, so for that area, I will highly recommend you go to the sundowner at least once for sunset dinner! I love the Theater of the Sea, if you're interested, they have dolphin experiences. There's also John Pennekamp State Park, which has great snorkeling & glass bottom boat tours. Going down the keys, Bahia Honda State Park is gorgeous. And then Key West, is fun just about everywhere you go, and you can take a day trip to the dry tortugas... amazing!

ETA: to reiterate what others have said... Key West is definitely touristy. I can't do it for more than a day, but to each their own.

Thanks you guys! Smiley laugh Yeah Key West is a bit too touristy for our tastes, but my husband-to-be loves key lime pie and I wanted him to try it from where it originated. Not to mention Key West has some huge family and cultural history for me, being Cuban. Thanks again for all the lovely suggestions!

In Islamorada I recommend Mangrove Mikes for breakfast. Whale Harbor Seafood Buffet was also amazing but it "burned" down at some point and it was supposed to be rebuilt and opened in April of this year. I haven't checked but hopefully it is.

In Key West I love the Fort East Martello Museum. That's where Robert the Doll is. They also have a little section on Cubans that have fled from Cuba, it's powerful and kinda sad. To me especially being that I'm Cuban. FH and I also going down a list of the best key lime pie in the Keys and are slowly crossing them off one by one. I'd look up one of those lists and try a few with your FH if he also loves key lime pie.
