Ketubah mother's names

7teth25, on December 27, 2013 at 9:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

I am trying to fill out the names on the ketubah and realized I'm not sure if the mothers of the bride and groom should be listed with their maiden names or married names. I've searched the internet and have seen it both ways, my fiance is Jewish but he doesn't know either. Anyone have any experience either way? We are an interfaith couple, non-traditional ceremony and with a modern ketubah design w/Hebrew and English text. Thank you for any help! Smiley smile

In Hebrew, last names would not be listed at all. Instead, you would be, for example, Ruth daughter of Abraham and Sarah. There is not fixed rule about the English version, because that is not actually required by Jewish law. I think that most couples that use the full names of the parents use the parents' current names (married name for the mother if that's what she uses).
