Keeping my ring from scratching!!

Kirsty, on February 27, 2017 at 8:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

My fiance proposed to me with a sterling silver ring, the issue I am having is it seems to be scratching up very quickly. My fear is it eventually having the plating scratch off and turning a copper color (which is what happened to my promise ring). How do I prevent this from happening? I want to be able to wear my engagement ring, but am I just stuck to keeping it in its box? Or is there some kind of coating or plating that can be put on it to prevent further damage? I am not picky about metal type, I just really want my ring remaining in good condition, and to be durable enough for daily ware. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same trouble...jeweler basically said that's just the way the metal is. They can strip and recoat but that weakens the band. I have a gold wedding band so after the wedding I don't think I will be wearing my e ring

No suggestions on preventing the scratches, but I know if you clean it or store it with a carbon piece and polish it, it will prevent it from tarnishing. I would go up to a jeweler and ask them... not some chain like Kay's, but an actual jeweler.

Is it 925 sterling silver or silver plated?

I've never had sterling silver jewelry turn colors unless it's tarnished, which can easily be wiped off with a cleansing cloth.

Are you referring to a white gold ring that is turning colors? If so, you can have it re-dipped in rhodium and it'll be a silver color again.
