Keeping my mom involved with dress shopping online

Cassandra, on May 3, 2020 at 8:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I have been looking forward to dress shopping with my mom for years. She is a retired costume designer and clothes maker so she loves giving advice on what works and what doesn't. She has always come with me when shopping for outfits for events and always has good honest advise on how things look on and what needs to be different to make it work.

But now with stay at home orders here is California I'm not sure we will be able to have our mother daughter bonding experience of going to a bridel shop. How can I have her involved and same/similar moment of her seeing me trying on a wedding dress when there is a high chance we will be shopping solely online? I can't give her links to websites to look at as she doesn't use computers.

Does she have a smartphone? Also, if you both live in California, you can hold off on dress shopping for a bit. Since your wedding is in March 2021, you can wait until later in the summer to shop since dresses typically have like a 6 month production time (or less) and there's a chance things may slowly start to open up in the coming months.

She doesn't have a smart phone (still got her old flip phone she got 15 years ago) and she barely understands how to use it. Technology confuses her a lot.

I'm hopeful that places will open by end of the summer but I feel like we should start figuring out a plan B now just in case.

I'm sorry! I'm not sure how to keep her involved if she is opposed to learning new technologies. I was able to teach my 80-something year old great aunt how to use an iphone semi-successfully. Maybe this is the push she needs to learn some basics of smart technology? The only thing I can think of is taking polaroids and contactless dropping them off at her home lol.

Does she have a computer and use email? You could send her photos through email possibly or share a gallery on google with her.

She said she doesn’t have a computer. Or a smartphone. Unfortunately that idea won’t work.

The best I can think of look at a bunch save them to your phone/iPad go visit her either outside a door so you can show her or even print them and show her. Figured if it’s at least on phone/iPad saves ink.

Maybe you could make something fun, like a catalog of dresses and have it printed/mailed directly to her. Then you could chat over the phone and she can see the specific dresses you have in mind Smiley smile

    Oh I like that idea.

She has an email that my dad made and manages for her. He tried to get her to use it but now he just prints out all her emails for her to read. 😂

I don’t know how old your mom is but I have a sister whose 79 and I gave her quick tutorial on iPhone and iPad. And apple offers and so does AARP. FaceTime is the only solution I think to get close.
