Keeping makeup off the dress

SharonandDarrin, on January 12, 2009 at 10:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I have a few tatoos that I want to cover up for my wedding but I'm concerned that the make up will stain my dress and may show up in pictures. Any suggestions on how to keep the dress clean?

This is a very tricky thing!! It is very difficult to prevent body makeup from getting on a white dress. I often caution Brides that it might be better to let the tattoo go then end up with a mess on that beautiful gown. Dermablend can be made transfer proof. Also alcohol based body makeups (usually used for airbrushing might work). If you try something: wear a white t shirt for the day after you do it to test it out. Otherwise, don't trust any product unless you give it a run-promise me that! You never know a product will react with your skin and your chemistry or if it may change shades as the day wears on.

A good tattoo cover up kit shoudl do the trick for you. There are alot of options out there. Also a makeup artist could help you with this. I wouldn't worry too much about the pictures, your photographer should be able to take care of that.

Hi there! I receive this comment alot! I find the airbrushing is the best way to cover and keep the mess on the dress to a minimum. If the tattoo is larger, I try only to cover the part that will show in your gown. And photo shop is a photographer's best friend to remove the tattoo for pictures! All my best!

I agree with the airbrush comment. I use a silicone based formula that is smudgeproof so it doesn't rub off. It's great!

I to agree using airbrush. KETT Cosmetics has foundations that are waterproof and I use it on brides regularly. Their hydro-proof formulation is sweat proof and yes I tried it on a client who had a hot summer outdoor wedding and it did not move.

Covering tattoos can be a bit tricky when doing it yourself so if you can't go with airbrushing and left to buy products of your own try to have a quick briefing with the sales associate on how to use it. And then spray it with Model In A Bottle (a misting spray that is also used by Oprah's makeup artist)

I hope this help you... congratulations!

First, cover your tatoos with a full coverage concealer (make sure you have assistance matching your color). Try Amazing Concealer by Amazing Cosmetics. You can find it at Ulta and Sephora. A little goes a very long way! Then, set the concealer with Loose Translucent Powder and a Velour Puff. Try Laura Mercier for both, especially the puff! Another good brand for powder, Makeup Forever High Def Powder. Then, combine half a bottle of each of these ingredients and add to a spray bottle : Benefit Shelaq and Makeup Forever Mist and Fix. Shake up and spray on makeup, holding bottle 10-12 inches away from skin. This mixture will not only set your makeup, it will make your makeup transfer resistant and COMPLETELY waterproof. You can use it on your face as well. It is a little pricey (about $30 for each bottle) but it absolutely works. I use this on all my clients, especially for Photoshoots, TV Work, Print, and of course, BRIDAL! Smiley smile Feel free to email me if you have any questions! Smiley smile
