Kay Jewelers Dip Cleaning

Ella Marie, on April 28, 2018 at 10:10 PM Posted in Planning 1 18
So our Engagement photos are next weekend, May 5, and I wanted to have my ring just dipped really click to shine it up. I called the store and the lady I spoke to said I do not need any paperwork to have that done, since it takes 5-10 minutes she said. But when I bring the ring back to get inspected and professionally cleaned, they need the paperwork and the ring is gone for about 1-2weeks.

Whats everybodys experience with this?! I don’t think it should cost anything just for the quick dip cleaning right? And, did it really make you’re ring shine? lol.

My ring is through Zales which is a partner of Kay I believe. I go into the store all the time to get it cleaned quickly and it takes 5 minutes and I just look around the store during it. Its free for the quick clean and for the inspection. I also had my ring inspected for warranty purposes and it only took about 10 minutes max and it was just the lady looking at it under a microscope and making sure the ring was all good and nothing needed repairs. I never had to send mine out and I wouldn't like to do that for 1-2 weeks.

Mines through Helzbergs and honestly i never need any paperwork to get mine cleaned there so it would be possibly your best bet to go and ask them to do it

I agree it takes minutes to clean it. But if you want to get it dipped they do have to send it out. :-(. I just went last week to Kay's and asked about this since I wanted mine to look super sparkly for our wedding in a few weeks. It's free if you have the protection plan otherwise its $50.00. Mine will be back next week. I don't understand why they don't do it store.

There's a difference between cleaning and dipping. If you have a white gold ring, it's the rhodium dipping that gives it the color. Your should get your ring redipped to maintain that bright white hue. My ring is from Zales and I have to bring the paperwork and have it redipped every 6 months to keep it under warranty. I haven't had to do it yet though so I don't know how long it will take. I do stop in and have it cleaned which takes not even 5 minutes. Hope this helps!

I had my rings to jays send out to be dipped and cleaned no issues, I usually just have to give the name and they pull it up on computer as long as you have insurance on it , it’s covered so I faithfully take mine every 6 months to get inspected and cleaned

    That seems pretty long.
Our inspection and cleaning happens in store and last time took about 10minutes - I also get the quick cleaning every other week os so, I stop by their store at the mall and ask for them to take care of it. My ring is always shinning haha . We bought rings at Zales.

When they inspect it they want the paperwork so they can fill it out that it was inspected. A cleaning is literally just putting it into a bowl with warm solution for a few minutes. My jeweler gives me free cleaning solution whenever I need it and it makes my ring sparkle

A "dip" is different than a cleaning. If your ring is white gold, it is plated with Rhodium, which gets done by the jeweler and takes 1-2 weeks. Over time white gold will "yellow" out, so people will get it Rhodium Dipped (makes it look just like it came from the case/brand new). If you purchased the ESP from Kays, then it is free.

A cleaning takes only a few minutes and is thrown in the cleaner. (Also free) Easy peasy!

I go into Kay all the time to clean the jewelry I have with them (a few necklaces, a bracelet and earrings) and they also clean my engagement ring (which I did not purchase with them) all for free. It is pretty quick too and you wouldn't believe the difference!

I just spoke to someone at the jewelry store where mine was purchased, yesterday. The dipping is a little more intensive, as it's meant to coat the white gold to keep it bright and shiny and that's probably why it's sent out. Cleaning is simple. It's just a little solution, and they do it in store.

If you're looking for something quick and just to get a bit of sparkle, the cleaning is what I would recommend. But if you have the time and/or have the protection plan or warranty for the ring, dipping would be great. I'm going to bring mine in a few weeks before the wedding to have it look it's best, especially since it's covered under the protection plan.

Former Kay Jewelers Employee! They don’t do it in store because they do not have a repair shop in store. They need to send it to the shop where there are professional jewelers that actually repair, size, and dip jewelry.

I know this post is old, BUT just Incase someone does happen to see this post. As a former Kay jewelers sales employee we can clean your ring in store for free. If you need to get your ring dipped in rhodium (because all gold is yellow and it is dipped in rhodium to produce that bright white look) it must be sent out. There is not a repair shop in Kay jewelers and we must send it out. Sales employees also do not have the skills of Jewelers who have studied and perfected their skills of repairing, sizing, dipping, and creating rings from scratch. It is a very safe process as everything is documented and it goes through 5 inspections at the shop and then a quality control Check when it gets to the store. I also suggest if it has not been a year yet you buy the life time repair warranty if it wasn’t purchased. That ensures all repairs are done with no cost to you. Also take your ring in every 6 months to keep up with the diamond warranty. If it’s been 8 months or 3 you can still get it updated as long as the stones are still there and not missing and in good condition (not chipped). That way if you do loose a stone within 6 months of your last inspection then you can get it replaced! I’m
